The Belly Dance
by mvtouring
The belly dance you will watch in Bodrum surely at least one evening, which is called " Turkish Night ". Folklore, and in the end a belly dance is always in the program. Everything the hotels offer, isn't always the *real* thing. Unfortunately in the last years more and more of the dancers have let it degenerate to a tourist animation.
The Nazar Boncuk
by Lyndra
The boncuk is a blue ornate glass symbol that is alleged to protect the wearer from the "evil eye" and while the Turks are not as superstitious as in days of old, the tradition to display and wear these glass jewels is still as strong as ever. You cannot go into a shop, bar or restaurant in the peninsula without seeing one displayed to pretect the premises - but Bodrum does a roaring trade in selling them to tourists. They come in all sizes from miniscule wallet size varieties up to large plate size for displaying in houses, they come as plates, dishes, cups, art work for walls, pens, necklaces and bracelets...they are a must have memory of your time in this part of the world.
Legend has it that the boncuk will trap the evil eye should it be in the vicinity - when you buy the nazar boncuk if it ever cracks or breaks then it has done what it was designed for and caught the evil before it gets to you!!! Turkish mothers are said to put one on their babies when they are born to prevent any bad luck but in shops in the resort you may find yourself offered one by a shop keeper, accept it graciously!
A taste of Turkey at home!!
by Lyndra about Tulumba.com
I have used a great website that sells all things Turkish and will ship pretty much anywhere. Tulumba.com is based in America but they have Turkish books, music, food, maps, clothing and jewellery available at very reasonable prices. They have a travel service.
There will be a shipping charge but the service is fast and efficient.
I have recently ordered some road maps from them and they arrived within a few days of my order and in good condition.
There is also a linked website that sells from within Turkey.
Dolmus to Turgutreis
by balhannah
The cheapest option for getting to Turgutreis.
Catch a Dolmus from the Bodrum Otogar. You will see the area where only Dolmus are. Walk around until you see one with "Turgutreis" and hop on the one with people on it. If you can't find it, ask somebody standing around, I found them most helpful, and they will show you which Dolmus. Pay the driver when he arrives, or he may come and get the money first.
Otogar is located on the corner of Cevat Sakir Street & Artemis Street.

A cute and little restaurant with a great Turkish cousine and the best cook I've ever met. You can both read your book and chat with the other guests as they sit so close to your table. The stuff and the owner are very cute, lovely people. Lentils, Turkish Sarma, Potatoes Salad, Borek
