Mavi Suite

nicely located, great Turkish food

A good friend in Istanbul highly recommended Turkbuku to me. Maki and Maca Kizi were also recommenced to me but I chose Mavi Suites rather casually. I was very happy staying there. I liked the garden setting with the bouganvilleas in glorious display. The staff were helpful and friendly esp. DJ Zeki who played fantastic music in 2003. The air conditioned cabana (it was detached from the other rooms) was clean and comfortable with an couch outside the twin bedroom and a covered balcony outside. The only drawback is the rather small bathroom.

Unique Quality: The main hoteI wing is L-shaped and the courtyard is a lush garden with a pathway leading to the main street, restaurants and the sunbathing deck. Great bay views as soon as you step out of the door. The restaurant at Mavi which is a branch of Istanbul-based Tike is excellent for Turkish cuisine consisting of mostly grilled kebabs and salads. The setting for dining in Turbuku is absolutely fabulous with the water steps away and the full moon rising from the horizon. (if you time your visit just right) It was the full moon when I was there it was a sight to behold from the restaurant deck off Mavi Suites. I even came back a month later (I stayed in another hotel) and they recognized me and invited me to sunbathe in their sundeck. I gladly obliged, of course.
