Folkdances
by mvtouring
Each region in Turkey has its own special folkdance and costume, and the best known of these are listed below:
a) "Horon" - This Black Sea dance is performed by men only, dressed in black with silver trimmings. The dancers link arms and quiver to the vibrations of the "kemence" (a primitive kind of violin).
b) "Kasik Oyunu" - The Spoon Dance is performed from Konya to Silifke and consists of gaily dressed male and female dancers '”clicking” out the dance rhythm with a pair of wooden spoons in each hand.
c) "Kilic Kalkan" - The Sword and Shield Dance of Bursa represents the Ottoman conquest of the city. It is performed by men only, dressed in early Ottoman battle dress who dance to the sound of clashing swords and shields, without music.
d) "Zeybek" - In this Aegean dance, colorfully dressed male dancers, called "efe," symbolize courage and heroism.
trekking, biking

Perhaps the most alluring aspect of trekking along the peaks of hills of the Bodrum peninsula is the chance to feast one's eyes on superb panoramas of innumerable islands, capes, inlets, bays and coves that grace this Aegean coast like intricate lace.
you can also jump on your bike and can go anywhere...
Friendly Bar!
by Lyndra about Jimmy's Bar
Jimmy's bar is on one of the main roads towards Gumbet. It is a lovely place to start the evening and can get quite busy quite quickly. We always found it a handy rest point between the hotels in the upper part of town and Bodrum itself.
They have satellite television, a good range of drinks and also serve food late into the evening (they have a restaurant about 3 doors away), the food on offer is "traditional" UK fast food type stuff such as burgers, chips and they also do a Sunday Lunch. The bar has seating outside, plays a range of popular music, shows all the UK football matches and other sporting events. The bar does Karaoke and the staff join in too (usually quite badly!!). Jimmy's has a taxi rank next door should you decide against the hills :-)
The staff are very, very friendly but do shout at you to try and entice you in to join them. This is the Turkish way however and the friendly banter should be taken as just that.
A round of drinks is very cheap too. No dress code
bodrum- milas airport
by erendilight
Although the Bodrum airport is a relatively new one - the facilities are excellent. A widened highway between Bodrum and the airport lets you enjoy now the only 30 minutes drive.
HAVAS is a bus service from the airport to the center of Bodrum - to the "Otogar" (Turkish for bus station)
Turgetreis Market
by ALANinWORCS69
Every Saturday, right slap bang in the centre of Turgetreis is the market... And it's a huge market!!! I didn't actually count the stalls but at a guess I'd say 200+!!! Everything from olives to fake Gucci watches for sale.
It can get very busy, in fact too busy. Shoulder to shoulder and opressive heat. But time it right (nearer the end) and it shouldn't be too bad.
We got some great gifts for the kids and the rest of the family. Haggling is the order of the day... as a guide work on half the price they first quote... if you get it less than that I'd say you're doing well!!! The stall holders can be quite insistant but they are friendly and if you treat them likewise you'll have a great experience. Give it a go!!!
