Gumbet to Marmaris

by marbrown2910

I will be on holiday in Gumbet for 2 weeks in August but I am hoping to visit friends in the resort of marmaris for 2 or 3 days. Could you tell me if you have any buses available for this trip.

From Gumbet, catch a Dolmus to Bodrum Bus Station, then catch the Bus from Bodrum to Marmaris.
Dolmus runs fairly often, Buses do too, usually a few different companies to choose from.

A nice way to travel would be to catch the ferry to Datca and then bus to Marmaris. The ferry goes from Bodrum at 9am or 5pm daily in August and takes 2 hours to Datca. You then get a dolmus into the town of Datca which is included in the ferry price - short trip. Then get them to drop you off by the pamukale office on the main street and the buses to Marmaris go more or less hourly. There is a cafe by the bus stop if you have to wait. Bus takes about an hour and the trip is fabulous, over mountains with spectacular views.
There are buses from Bodrum to Marmaris. If it was me I think I would do the ferry going and the bus returning then you see more of the country.

Travel Tips for Bodrum

Marina

by Helga67

The marina and port for ferries is located right in the heart of Bodrum. It's a bustling place hosting elegant yachts that come from all over the world. It's nice to walk along the marina and watch all those beautiful wooden sailing yachts.

Many sailing companies have there starting point in Bodrum for a cruise along the turquoise coast of Turkey.

Olive....Elixir of The Gods

by voyageur2

Everybody going to Bodrum by land can see numerous olive trees. Region is well known with quality of its olives. Locals never prepare a table without olive oil. Salads and many dishes contain it. Here are a few examples:
mixed fries(pepper, tomato, egg plant, marrows etc.) with yoghurt, omelettes with local vegetables and herbs, green or black olive in olive oil(try it with some toast-excellent for a breakfast)

Big Bazaar

by pretty33555

Bodrum is also like a big market, I mean if you are interested in shopping (or to put it more correctly "marketting":D) this is the right place.
You can find lots of cute, cheezy, stylish things:) and don't be afraid of haggling:)
BUT!!! one of the most important warnings!
Keep your purse closer to your heart or to whatever:))))))) ...I mean that some of the local inhabitants are very good at pulling purses out of the pockets of careless tourists:)))))
good luck and have a nice time!

Milas Bodrum International Airport

by voyageur2

Using air transportation will be the most reasonable way for going to Bodrum from Europe. Despite relatively good road conditions in western regions of Turkey, a problem-free travel to Bodrum requires some comfort.
There are regular flights from Istanbul(domestic) daily and charters from many European airports.

Hummmm.. someone said pizza?

by erendilight about Sunger Pizza

Cheap and cheerful - opposite the marina. Best Pizza and meeting point of the town. It is always crowded with locals and the sailing crowd. If you venture on to the roof terrace there are tremendous views over the Harbour towards the castle. The personality of the place reflects the local well-known owner. Try 'Çökertme', that's thin sliced meat on a layer of very fine grated chips with yoghurt.
