Rhodes to Bodrum

by Aussieholiday

I am travelling with husband and two kids (18 + 10 yrs) from Rhodes to Bodrum next June, Thursday 21st to be exact. Was thinking I would have to go via Marmaris but, see I can go from Rhodes to Bodrum direct by ferry/hydrofoil. Is anyone able to give me info on quickest way to cover this route pl and the approximate one way cost? Many thanks!

dear Aussie
if the aim is to go to bodrum its always better to go directly from rhodes to bodrum .Otherwise to go from marmaris to bodrum is complicated and will take long time by bus .I dont know anything about the cost but ı am sure other VT members will help you on this subject.
good luck

If you haven't been to Marmaris, I suggest you take the longer way through it. Although they are close on the map, there is very little similarity between Marmaris and Bodrum. They both are regarded as the best resort town in Turkey by some people. I personally think Marmaris is more beautiful, but I guess it depends on one's interests. So if your schedule allows, I suggest you see Marmaris too.

Travel Tips for Bodrum

Gumusluk

by Erkmen

The ancient city myndos... Peaceful town Gumusluk, Modest citizens and a lovely village..

Gumusluk is a small village on the edge of the Bodrum Peninsula.. it is almost half an hour drive to Bodrum.. There are small pensions, restaurants and village houses..

As gumusluk is considered as a cite place, no more buildings are allowed.. May be thats why this small village is so much attractive..

Gumusluk is famous with its fish restaurants.. And its a must do "To eat fish at gumusluk".. Every night all those fish restaurants are getting full with locals, Tourists and visitors.. And a dinner in such a nice atmosphere woths many things..

There is a small island just in front of Gumusluk, its called Rabbit island. You can see many rabbits in the island..

The Dolmus (dolmush) is typically Turkish and can be found everywhere. These are mainly minibuses traveling relatively short distances. A dolls usually waits and starts in the bus station until it is full and then leaves. You can board a dolls anywhere on its route by signaling it to stop for you. Similarly you can get off at a convenient point anywhere along the route. The destination of the dolls is posted in the windscreen. There are services to all places on the Bedroom peninsula. In summer the latest hour of departure of the minibuses or dolls is 5 a.m. in the summer time.
This kind of public transport is cheap and efficient and works very well all over Turkey. Just sit at the back of the dolmus and pass money to the one in front of you and say "bir kisi lutfen:)"
IF YOU WILL DRIVE!!!!Your first impression of traffic in Turkey will be shocking: queue jumping and honking cars, specially taxis who are not bothered about traffic lights and over taking in most impossible places. Pedestrians appear to have suicidal tendencies.Bikes and motor-bikes without light and opposite the One-Way street - that's absolute normal.
WATCH OUT!!!

Don't miss this hospitality..

It is owned by a Dutch lady who has high standards and loves to entertain her guests with renditions on her flute. Also art exhibitions are added to your enjoyment. It is a quiet civilized place in old town Bodrum that serves traditional Aegean cuisine. The lamb is to die for. lamb lamb lamb:)

Cumhuriyet Street

by balhannah

This street is also known as "Republic street" or "Bar street" and runs for a long way, is narrow in places, with shops, Bars, Eateries, and lots and lots of people. It is an interesting area to walk through, and it is well worth exploring the laneways that run off it. You will find good quality shoes, Boutiques with designer clothes, Leather, Onyx, Copper, Gold & Silver wares, as well as some lovely original, handcrafted souvenirs. You can also buy cheaper souvenirs. There are some really nice items that you can buy, IF you have enough money!
