Travel Tips for Dalyan

GULET CRUISING

by whitecliff62

Although i have yet to do a Gulet cruise people tell me its the most relaxing holiday you could ever want. You can rent these local boats for one or even two weeks and sail around the beautiful bays of Turkey with an experienced crew who do everything for you, and the tan you get is incredible. There is a very useful fact sheet you can get all about Gulet cruising from Thomas cook and its free, contact the admin department on the number listed below

Ancient Caunos

by JLBG

Caunus, Caunos or Kaunos is the name of an ancient city, near modern Dalyan. It is now several kilometers inland but in the antiquity, it was a see harbor. It progressively got silted and now van be reached only by small boats across the swamps of the Dalyan river. The settlement is believed to date from 3,000 BC but was later developed as a main harbor for both Lycia and Caria as it stands on their common border.

After Caunos was taken by Alexander the Great in 334 BC, it began to loose its importance as a harbor, mainly because of silting.

The photos shows ruins of storehouse that look like the Ghorfas in Tunisia.

Dalyan

by ania70pl

Dalyan is 80 km away from Marmaris and 75 km away from Fethiye. It was established as a fishing village in the last century. On the wharf there's a mosque which belongs to the last century. Its name comes from crawls which were set up on the Dalyan river.
