Rember the film classic African Queen - well this is it. Arriving at turtle beach through the reeds will conjure up images of this film. Its a really delightful way to reach the beach.
The Dalyan canal, formely known as Calbis, is a naturel water channel, connecting the Köycegiz lake with the mediterranean. Boats longer than 12m are not permitted and speed restrictions are in force to preserve this natural beauty.
This boat we saw along the banks of the river was so beautifuly decorated in crushed velvet and amazingly painted in red with a dome on the top, it just had to be a wedding boat. Come to think of it , it might have been a funaral boat Mmmm.
The church seems to have been built in the Vth. It is a large building, which tells that there should have been may Christians in Caunos. It has three bays and one apse The church has not been restored but insignificant rubbles around it have been removed, which allow to better see the structure of the church.
