going to Fethiye for the first time

by snowife

WE are traveing with a 3,5 year old child and are thinking to stay in AtaPark Hotel. Could someone tell us how hard it would be to get to the beaches from there and how. What are other things we could do with a child there?Thank you.

Re: going to Fethiye for the first time

by SOLODANCER

No hardship at all as far as getting to the many beaches in and around Fethiye.

The best ones from my own experience are the ones in Olu Deniz, an inland beach with calm turquoise waters in a rather secluded but with a resort-type environ hemmed-in by mountains on all sides.

It's inland so you have to get on those dolumuses (vans) or if now there may be regular buses to Olu Deniz for the short ride. Possible too to take a taxi but will cost you more for sure.

It's a beautiful stretch of beach tho be warned that here it isn't much of sand than pebbles. And here there are places to lodge, restaurants and cafes to enjoy.

Travel Tips for Fethiye

The Weather

by Aurorae

The climate in the area is Mediterranean. There are lots of pines, olives and other Mediterranean vegetation, the soil is tzpical red, and it is possible to swim from April to November without problem, the best periods are May, June, late September and October. in July and August it is too hot and humid.
Here are the averages for some months:

Temp °C Rainfall (mm) Sea Temp ºC
April 25 40 18
May 27 36 19
June 32 13 22
July 35 3 24
Aug 35 3 26
Sept 32 11 25
Oct 27 46 23

Actuallz, 35 in July and August is a lie :), local people told us it´s over 40, once it was even 47! So go figure...

In October we experienced rain twice during 15 days of stay, and both times it was still warm and swimable!
Fethiye has 300 sunny days in a year, so even if it rains, it goes away very fast!

Butterfly Valley

by sandysmith

Reachable only by boat is Butterfly Valley, situated a few kilometers southeast of Ölüdeniz - from where boats can take you to this idyllic cove. Hardly secluded when the boats arrive with their daytrippers but its vey scenic with the high cliffs and inlet - just like a fjord. Walking inland you will come across waterfalls - unfortunately not enough time to walk to our our boat trip, besides it was too hot and a cool dip in the sea was more of a prioroity then!

The lycian tomb

by Djinn76

Some remarkable example of lycian tombs can be seen on the left of the city, above the ruins of a castle...
Too bad I have only been able to see them remotely, from the sea . We haven't got the time to walk over there.

Kayakoy

by artonice

Kayakoy is 8km far from Fethiye .It is an old Greek town .In 1922 Turkish and Greek government make an agreement and Greek people who was living in Kayakoy left the town and Turkish people who was living in Greece came instead .However in 1923 Turkish people also left the town and today kayakoy is a town with the empty Greek houses.
Of course today there are some people who lives there and try to make this ghost city,a culture centre.
It's a different adventure to see this town and then eat local food -gozlem,kebaps in the small restaurants around.Really enjoyable..
