More about Greenland Hotel

Overall the Greenland is a good hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Janey18

We stayed at the Greenland Hotel for one week on 2nd May 2007. At that time we were all but seven guests as it was the start of the season! Due to this the self service buffet was closed and we were served with some very good four course dinners to our table, it suited us fine having the whole hotel to ourselves! Guests soon started arriving and there were about 100 by the end of the week.
Food is good, but the (local and free) drink selection is poor, the white wine was in my view foul but the red ok, beer fine; but only gin; vodka, raiki and brandy on offer so don't expect excellent cocktails!

The room was small but clean, the balcony had only room for two chairs.

The hotel surroundings are quiet but a regular (10/15 minute wait) runs to the towns till 11pm and is very cheap.

Didn't seem a lot to do for small children except the baby pool, but the flume is great for older kid/adults! Also the evening entertainment is pretty poor.

Don't bother with the Thomas Cook trip to Fethiye Market/Ghost
town, you can get a bus easily yourself and don't have to endure the turkish delight factory and gold centre which eats up most of the day.

Overall Hotel Greenland is good but a week was enough for me.

A Smokers Heaven

by TripAdvisor Member littleandlarge_7

We stayed at the Greenland Hotel between 19th May and 1st june 2007. The hotel makes 2 assumptions about it's guests: that they are all smokers, and that they all enjoy loud thumping music all day, and most evenings. On the occasions when the weather is inclement, if you don't want to put up with the usual dose of the "birdy song, or Agadoo", then the only alternative is to have an early night. The loud music continues through all meal times, although we were treated to classic music during breakfast, also loud!

We found the guests at this hotel tend to be almost exclusively smokers, who tend to come from the north, we noticed just 2 other guests there who didn't smoke. The restaurant had a number of non smoking tables, but of course they share the same breathing space as the smoking tables. We fared no better while at the bar, as we were forced to breathe polluted air.

My conclusion is that the place is a smokers paradise, and a headbangers heaven. We choose not to smoke or spend our holiday in a perpetual disco, so we won't be returning.

Enjoyable

Just returned from our relaxing break at the Hotel Greenland. We stayed for two weeks and enjoyed every minute of it. The Turkish are so friendly. The staff at the hotel, we found, were very helpful and always ready for a chat. The food was always varied and looked good. The room was cleaned every day. The pool was very clean. Overck, and the surrounding area were just lovely. My other half did the microflight trip (Fly South) which he found brilliant. We did the mud trip, with Thomas Cook, and as always in Turkey they take you off to see a CARPET factory! If you overlook that ,the trip was great. Atfer we had been we were told that you can get cheaper trips down in the town, and alot of people did that. All in all it was a good holiday. You must do the Turkish Baths they are so good and a great way to start the hoilday. Yes, it was a great hols and we will go back, we could not fault Greenland Hotel. I would recommened this hotel.

Great relaxing holiday

by TripAdvisor Member Richard_Turner

I have just returned from the Greenland Hotel in Ovacik near Olu Deniz in Turkey and can recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing getaway. I know October isn't the busiest holiday time which is the reason we went, I'd say the hotel was a third full so we recieved excellent personal service.
I'd rate the hotel as a good 3 star, and the only moan I have is the crockery is chipped and it could do with some tlc.
The food is fresh and varied each day, with some interesting dishes, one night deep fried bat (bit like chicken).
The pool is clean and has a water slide which was well used, some nights the entertainment was excellent, others not so, but hey, can't win 'em all.
there's a small shop on site for bits and bobs which was useful,
The owner even let us use his internet access which was kind.
The hotel has a bus to take you to it's own beach on the lagoon in Olu Deniz, although you do have to hire the beach furniture for a couple of pounds, I think in high season the little bus really must do many trips up and down the mountain.
There's a taxi waiting for you at the hotel gate, although we opted ffor the more exciting local bus, excellent, clean and will drop off wherever you fancy stopping, the biggest town locally is Fethye which is 4 miles away and closer is Hisinarou, 2 miles, but a bit pricey.
The rooms are adequate, chambermaids are very thorough, the blocks have open stairs and landings, I can imagine in high season it maybe noisey on the marble floors.
The tennis court is over grown, I can see why at that altitude.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay, very relaxing indeed. I can understand why people return, if I got a good deal, I will.

Great Hotel, Shame about Ahmed !!

by TripAdvisor Member catwoman44

Myself , my husband & 2 of our friends stayed here & had a fantastic time, the hotel was very clean & so was the pool area, the staff are constantly clearing the dirty glasses & other rubbish from the poolside tables. The food is not bad but not great. The rooms are all air conditioned & kept to a very high standard of cleanliness. One thing though the same music is played all the time, which can be very irritating & the entertainment is very poor for adults. I must say though that Charlie, Leo & Ozzi do a fantastic job of trying to entertain all of the guests & interact very well with ALL, the 3 boys do a grand job !!!! One problem that this hotel has is 1 barman called Ahmed he VERY RUDE & UNFREINDLY & is like this with most British guests, I believe to get a smile from this guy one has to "line his pocket " !!! Apart from him all the staff are polite & courteous.

Better than expected

by TripAdvisor Member BIGCOLLondon

Booked through Thomas Cook and done a deal with them as we had 3 families of 4. We ended up booking 1 family room (for the teenage girls) 1 twin, (the missus and the little'un), 1 twin (me and my mates boy) and 2 X doubles for the grown ups to play.

We arrived at the resort on a Monday at 18.30 hours and check in was simple.

I didnt fancy the look of the hill and kept my fingers crossed. All of our 5 rooms were in block 1 (opposite reception) and we were all on the same floor.

So here we go, 2 weeks of lazing about etc.

After getting dragged up on stage for the Belly dancing, karaoke singing, having a birthday, winning Mr,. Greenland competition,
almost daily water polo and volleyball matches, needless to say most people knew me.

I do not care too much for some of the reviews that I read before I went away.

The food was great, the beer was cold, the bar staff and waiters/waitresses were very friendly and hard working.

The entertainments team worked their nuts off. Many thanks to Ozzy, Charlie, Leo and Ed.

I am not getting paid for this review but I will tell you that I am already seriously considering going back again next year (like many others I met last week).

Only 1 criticism. No Sky Sports. !!! A cab into Hisaranu (£4) sorts that out

If you book this holiday you cannot go wrong.

If you need more info then drop me a mail and I will gladly answer any questions you have.

Loved it

Jase, Jo and Family

friendly hotel

by TripAdvisor Member leighrawlings

airport transfer was very smooth, we'd missed the last meal so were provided with sandwiches if we wanted them.
The breakfast buffet was great, a chef on 'omelette duty' and plenty of fresh bread and pastrys.
Hotel complex was nicely set out, 3 storey villas, all with balcony overlooking the gardens,or pool, and lovely gardens to take a stroll watch out for the tortoises ,theres a few loose in the grounds.
The pool was always clean ,a good size, and always enough sunloungers to go round, even if some people did reserve them before breakfast!
Evening entertainment was ok, sometimes a bit amateur but fun for the family. The hotel entertainment staff were all excellent fun and friendly.Daily aquagym very funny to watch!
Also Dallaman airport going home was excellent for last minute shopping and also a food hall with the usual MacDs,Pizzahut, pub food, so you can spend your last few dollars.
Easy to get into Hisaranu village , 5 minute walk to main road where you can flag down local minibus £1.50 per trip. Tons of great bars and restaurants in Hisaranu.

great holiday

by TripAdvisor Member iwasthereapril07

had great time at greenland, staff really friendly and polite.Hotel clean and lovely surroundings.Weather was really hot so pool was welcomed. Hisaronu a great place for shopping with so many bargains. Olu deniz was nice although a shingly beach! Reccomend a boat trip and turkish bath-both very relaxing. Also reccomend the dalaman departure-well worth the money. we had mud bath which was different but a very good experience and enjoyable. would do it all again! well done to charlie, ozzie and ollie for entertaining us each day, such lovely lads. sadly they are leaving soon and no doubt will be really missed! good luck to charlie on going to university, and his train travelling if he still goes! Overall we had a really great holiday and would go again. we also met some great friends and had a lot of fun. well done greenland!!

entertainment!!! I think not.

by TripAdvisor Member martin86

This Hotel has a lot going for it. Stunning scenery, brilliant pool, water slide, good food and friendly, helpful staff. The downside is that it rained for three days while we were there, which i know isnt the hotels fault , but the entertainment side of the hotel was so bad that there was nothing to do all day. I need to stress the word nothing! If sitting in a very smoke filled room with a bar in it, watching the rain run down the window is your idea of entertainment then this hotel may be for you.
The entertainment in the evening was worse. we stayed for 7 nights and had one evening of belly dancing wich was quite good. Two nights later we had bingo that turned chaotic because the chap organising it obviously hadnt even heard of it before. That was it. In 7nights!
I am trying not to be to negative because the staff worked really hard and it is a nice hotel but selling this holiday as having entertainment is just wrong. Ive also seen this hotel advertised as having a tennis court and basketball court. Be warned. it hasnt.
