Fethiye blue cruise with family- recommend operator?

by Momplanner

Hi, We are an American family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids, ages 9 and 4) traveling to Turkey in early June. After Istanbul and Cappadocia, we're taking an overnight bus south (probably to Fethiye), to explore the coast, hopefully on a 3 night blue cruise, traveling east to west, as our next destination is Pamukkale. Can anyone recommend a good boating company for us? We decided against the Olympos-Fethiye route because we heard it was more popular with younger, party-ing crowds and we're looking for a more relaxing cruise. Since there's just the 4 of us, I imagine it's too expensive to charter our own boat and would need a cabin charter, unless there are smaller boats that might work for us? Many thanks!

This guy is one of the oldest travel agents in Turkey. He speaks perfect english. We were staying in his pension last summer. He is located in Fethiye (has small pension).
I would contact him for information about prices of cruises as he is not really "pushy" person.
We were very happy dealing with him.

When we were in Fethiye there were many boats and not too many costumers therefore I am guessing with the good travel agent you can negotiate price really well.

If you are looking for a great beach town close to Fethiye I recommend PATARA.
THere is no Patara page on Virtualtourist so I put few tips on Fetiye page for Patara.
It was by far the nicest beach and nicest town far away from drunken teenagers in Olu Deniz.
Look at my Turkey page for photos and tips from our last year trip to Turkey.

Travel Tips for Fethiye

I can't remember when was the last time when i felt so serene and peaceful like whe sitting at the rocks of the Rock bar, and there was nobody. It was a bit cloudy and I could hear only the dashing of waves and the scent of the sea... It was a very special moment.

Walks In Butterfly Valley

by sandysmith

There are two main paths you can walk through in Butterfly Valley. One leads to the waterfalls - whre the valley comes to a dead-end with high sheer cliffs where the two waterfalls cascade. Thee other leads to the village of Faralya but be warned its a steep path - not to be undertaken in the midday heat! Due to the humid microclimate here many species of butterfly can be seen - hence its name of course!. It is home to the unique Jersey Tiger butterfly amongst others the best time to see the butterflies is between June and September.

Saklikent is a gorge about 3/4 hours drive from Fethiye.

There is a boardwalk up the gorge for a bit and in the non rainy season you can walk further. In the rainy season it is too dangerous due to the water volume.

It's worth a visit, wonderful scenery. There are the usual trinket sellers and restaurants there.

Saklikent is a wonderful canyon in the mountains behind Fethiye, recently discovered, only about 10 years ago or so. Saklikent means "hidden place" or something like that, it was created to attract tourists. :))
The canyon is 300m deep and there is a stream of river that if you want to cross, you´ll face a powerful stream of ice cold water, but it´s well worth walking the path, the scenery is amaying, like in Indiana Jones movies (again!)
It´s about 50km away from Fethiye and the landscapes that you cross while passing by on your way there are breathtaking! I especially loved the cotton fields and sesame lent with the high mountains with snow peaks behind.
