transport

by normz

I will be staying in a hotel in Olu Denize how far a drive is it to Fethiye?
do i need to hire a car?
nad i am travelling in two weeks time. do you still think the sun will be so hot on the boats?
and thank you for answering my question

Re: transport

by KayaKoyuOldBoy

It takes about 20 minutes to get to Fethiye from Oludeniz by road. However, there are dolmuses (mini-buses) that leave Oludeniz every 10 minutes or so that go into the centre of Fethiye.

It's beginning to warm-up here now and the weather will be just right for boat trips. Spring time is far more bearable than the heat of July and August.

Hi
NO you dont need to hire any car
you have many dolmushes ( public transport minibusses) from both sides
and it takes only 20-25 minutes
Yes the sun will be hot and you can enjoy swimming
good luck

its a frew years since I was there, but , although the roads are quite good some of the driving (from locals and tourists) isnt so good, so if you want to hire a car to go further afield then do be careful. I saw a dead motorcyclist at the side of the road betwen fethiye and hisaronu (above olu deniz) a few yaers ago

Travel Tips for Fethiye

Gulet Cruise

by kentishgirl

Fethiye has a huge harbour, infact its so big that it dominates the town.
Many Gulet Cruises start and/or finish here. There are plenty of places where you can book them - however in summer they can get very booked out, so as soon as you know when you wanna go - BOOK IT!

We joined our Gulet Cruise here in Fethiye, which over the course of 4 days took us around the coast to Olympos. (Details of the the Gulet on my Olympos Page)

Pancakes

by Aurorae

Like in Serbia, pankcakes are also very popular in Turkey, which is great, because I adore them. The same style like ours, huge and thin. They can be filled with whatever you want, the best are chocolate. They make them slightly different over there, they put the ingredients and filling while they are being baked, and here we do it after the pancake is finished.
The prices vary from place to place, but usually they are between 2 and 5 million.
Usually they are made by women sitting on the floor outdoors.

Boat

by Aurorae

Don't miss the chance to take a boat, either for a one day tour or a mini cruise, it is unforgettable experience! They serve meals on board, usually when you are anchored in one of the coves or lagoones with crystal clear water and enchanting colours!

Downtown Fethiye

by Erkmen

Fethiye is a nice spot in the Med coastes of Turkey.. The small fishing town, now become one important tourism destination with the wonderful landscapes and Historical parts around the town..

But still the spirit is going on.. when you reach the downtown you will see nice cafes, restaurants and also some small fishing boats..

A LONG DISTANCE PATH IN TURKEY : LYCIAN WAY

by FAIRYCHIMNEY

"8 DAYS ON THE HEAPS !!"

Lycian way trekking trail opened in 2004 : An English lady called Kate Clow had designed and implemented the trail.
Even though the trail is about 500 km long , we made 65 of it(which took 8 days)
As we informed through our guide , Lycian way trail was authorised by the Turkish government and way -marking of Lycian way was sponsored by some firms in Turkey. You can find detailed information about Lycian way that was written by Kate Clow.Such a fantastic book and lures all trek lovers up to the mediterranean heaps,to the ancient paths..
here's few words"es taken from Kate Clow's book : "Lycia is the historical name of the Teke Peninsula, which is the bump on Turkey's Mediterranean coast between the cities of Fethiye and Antalya. It is the western termination of the taurus mountains and the vivacious and friendly personality of the Turks."
Above mentioned book is for those who wants to explore a part of the "real Turkey's past and present."

"The Way Marking...details"

god bless the individual travelling : i really appreciate people who makes our lives easier : when you walk through this paths you will see that the way marked with red and white paint flashes.but keep in mind that there are some other marks on the route too : real ones marked on the rocks not trees !
You can walk this route anytime of the year. but i highly recommend you to do it in the spring or late autumn.to avoid the heat !
Rain usually starts in mid march and continues till April :for your kind info !

"my favorite desitnation on the way : gey village"

unbelievable hospitality ,stony and steep fields, poor but shiny locals: in gey village one may one stay forever( well untill you miss civilazation indeed )
most of you know , if you experienced the mediterranean coasts before ; touristic places, loud music, commercial areas.... etc. This paths, and trekking experince gives you to explore the other world in the coasts: totally different world.
people really poor , no water supply and from age 7 to 70 , they take care of themselves through natural sources.they heal themselves through earth ! tyhmes, oregons, sage trees and daphnes.....you feel dizzy with all these temping smells all long your way ...and besides , a breattaking view companies you : what more you may want _??
