Icmeler prices and helpful tips

by Petercfc

Hi, I am travelling soon to this resort and it will be my first trip to Turkey. I wonder if it is best to take mostly Euro’s or to change into Turkish money?

I have had mixed reports abouts costs of food, drinks and excursions is it still relatively cheap out there?

Can you recommend any good restaurants or must see attractions?

Thanks for any help on the above

We were in Icmeler in June, it is a fabulous resort and I found it much cheaper than previous holidays to Portugal / Spain etc. They still use lira ( I've heard other resorts are already using the euro! A friend visited Side this year and they are using it there and things are more expensive). They accept English notes readily too when buying t-shirts etc. There are plenty cashline machines in the resort centre and we got good exchage rates when we got home etc.
You'll not be short of great places to eat, they all do similar dishes really and one is better than the other. (I'm not sure if you're allowed to recommend on this site or if it would be seen as advertising?). Plenty things to do - boat trips, excursions, turkish night a must ... have a brilliant time!

Sorry just had a look at some previous replies to questions and realised I probably can mention names of restaurants etc.
Our favourite was The Florida Bar at the top of the canal ate here a few times, the food is fantastic and staff very friendly. Las Vegas was also very good and Villa Kontas on the canal had the HUGEST bread to start (also look ot for the Mohammed Al Fayed lookalikey waiter!).
Lovely cocktails and cushioned sitting area in the bar at the Mitos Apartments -also at canal side.
But, you can't go wrong really ... enjoy!

Thanks a lot, so would you say a good meal for two with wine for around £20?

Hi again, there were 5 in our party 4 adults and a child. We easily had a main (which are big), they bring you turkish bread and dips so you don't really need a starter unless you are really hungry! A bottle of wine for the girls, a couple of beers for the boys and lemonade and ice cream for the wee one - this all came to on average about £40 - £50 so yes you're talking proabaly about a tenner a head or so. Varies slighty from place to place and can get good deals on drinks etc (wine included).

Just back a few things about the place. It’s really lovely but price wise its not overly cheap. Wine is around £10 a bottle of house wine. A good meal for two with wine can cost anything from £25 to £80. fake cloths and trips are cheap but food and drink is not as cheap as had hoped. In saying that I live in London so its better than here.

Had a cracking time best restaurant is called the Lemon Tree

Travel Tips for Icmeler

They are but memories now,
Those walks along the promenade and taking lunch at the Erdem.
The boat trips were we visited the cave, fed the fish at the fish farm and swam from the boat into cristal clear waters.

Only memories now of the jeep safari when we visited the waterfall, walked out to sea on the sandbank at Oranihya and got involved in endless water fights with fellow jeepers.

My lonely walks in the early morning around the village, no one for company but the hens ,goats and numerous birds singing their morning song, with the rhythmic beat of the crickets in the background.
The smell of the land and off the bakers shop, so distinctive.

Nights spent in the restaurents and bars, enjoying a meal and a few drinks with friends, singing and dancing and watching the shows are all but fading memories.

The winter will be long and cold but as long as we can hang onto our memories the time will soon pass till we again return to our magical place.

See The Blue Fish

by redrhino12

The jeep safari came about to see the Blue Fish through this little snippet on mythology I found.

The story goes that just before Cleopatra left Egypt on her journey to the Bozburun Penninsular in Turkey, she was given a necklace by Mark Anthony made from semi-preciouse stones called Lapiz-Lazuli,these gems are a vivid blue in colour.

One morning when Cleopatra went down to the river to bathe she was overcome by a deep sense of sadness brought on by the absence of her lover.
Tears fell from her eyes and fell on the necklace,a token of Anthonys love for her.
The gems heavy with the Tears Of Sadness broke and the jewels fell into the water,on hitting the water each stone was turned by Aphrodite the goddess of love into one of these elusive fish we look for today, each fish representing a tear of sadness for a missing loved one and for the memory of Anthonys love for Cleopatra.
