Any smoke-free zones in Icmeler restaurants?

by Fran333

I'm visiting Turkey (Icmeler) for the first time in July this year. I understand that smoking is part of the culture in Turkey and prevalence is still high - but are there any non-smoking retaurants, or any with non-smoking areas? Thank you

Hi fran333,
Sorry, but who told you that smoking is a part of our culture? I disagree with you.
It is totally wrong, well atleast for last 20 years.Maybe it is true for some arabic countries, but not for turkey.
Since several years it is forbidden to smoke in all covered public areas including transport vehicles.By 19.july,2009(yesterday) it is also forbidden in all restaurants, coffehouses, malls etc.in their all facilities including half-covered areas.Only streets are free.Ofcourse some people will resist to law and insist smoking in coming days, like France. But we will see how smokers adapt theirselves for regulation.
By saying smoking a part of our culture,I would say this is true for France or Italy. When I was in France and Italy 5 yrs ago,I was shocked that 12-13 yrs old kids smoking in everywhere while most adults smoke also on streets. You can not see near similar picture on turkish streets.
Have fun in Turkey.

Travel Tips for Icmeler

Early Morning Sights and Sounds

by redrhino12

Music may go off at midnight in Icmeler, but music of a differant kind starts, as soon as the sun begins to rise.

Up in the Old Village cockerels crow at the start of this new day,
Strutting around their harem of cackling hens,I suppose maybe disscusing with each other the routine of the coming day as their broods of chickens scratch away at the baked earth.

Sheep and goats call to each other, while the pidgeons sit on the rooftops of the small village houses cooing and canoodling to each other
and in the background is the constant rhythmic beat of the crickets.

A small brush fire is burning at one of the farms while this old lady clears the grass and small bushes off her land the smoke gently spiralling into the warm air stinging the nostrils as I walk past.

The early morning walk over I head back towards the town and as I get near to the centre I am brought back to reallity by the beating from one of the bars selling early morning breakfasts, the song,
Deeper in The Night

I keep giving myselfe reasons to stay in the Old Village
The tranquill atmosphere in the morning.
The Dark skies at night when the stars stand out like little jewels.

Why cant we live two lives.
Then again maybe I do.

Boat trip 2

by miniman2804

You really can't beat a boat trip on the Aegean. The water is blue and cool, the sun is shining, and the Turks just love to have you there - not just for your money - ie they ensure you have a good time.

There are any number of boat trips. This year we booked through Majestic restaurant (ask for Mehmet) and 1 adult and 4 kids went for TL60 (25 GBP) not including drinks - be a bit careful - not extortionate but substantially more than bars or supermarkets.

Probably less enjoyable than the other trip on my pages, but cheaper :-)
