boat trips to rhodes

by sunita1977

Hi we are staying in icmeler, arriving on tuesday 15th and I'm 6 half months preganant. We would like to go on lots off boat trips were my daughter and husbanad can enjoy the lovely seas. also does anyone now if we need a visa to go on a boat trip to Rhodes.
Also what the temp will be that week as i'm heavily preganant.

Hi Sunita,
Be careful getting on and off the gulets in Turkey (if that is the ship/trip you choose), you are an EU passport holder I'm assuming so you will not need a visa to get into Rhodes - just don't forget to take the passport with you as you will need it to get into Rhodes and to get back into Turkey.
It is already mid thirties in Turkey so it will be very warm - take plenty of water everywhere with you. It is very easy to overheat in Turkey :o)
Enjoy your holiday

Hi Sun, I lived/ worked in Icmeler 1999, July was very hot and humid then. Water taxis ran from Icmeler to Marmaris and Turunc. Plenty of boat trips around the bay with different companies, I seem to remember 'The Yorkshire Lass' or Captain Bullsh*t bars did a Sunday lunch trip.( Not sure if these are still in business now, but they were very popular when I was there)
Some did trips to Dalyan for the mud baths etc - take care to ensure that it's the trip you want- I had reports of problems with passengers having to transfer between boats, which wasn't safe (I was a holiday rep at the time, working for a big UK company. Our prices were more expensive than many of the 'local operators' but they were fully insured , with compo if the trip wasn't upto scratch. Lots of holiday makers went with the cheaper option - some had a great time, some had very bad experiences, some near fatal!)
There was a co-operative running near the beach with different companies offering trips - word of mouth from other hotel guests etc will ensure you get a good trip. Some trips are better than others.
Check out ferries to Rhodes in Marmaris. You usually have to leave your passport the night before your trip. I found a big difference in temperature when I had to travel from Marmaris to Rhodes in July (when I had to leave Turkey to renew my Visa as I'd been there 3 months)Rhodes was much cooler and less humid - I even had to put blankets on my bed! When returning to Marmaris next day, the heat hit me when we docked.
This crossing can be a bit rough at times, so take any sea sickness precautions you might need.
Hope this is of help. Please feel free to contact me for further info.
Have A Great Trip
Best Wishes,

Travel Tips for Icmeler

Excellent food and service

by davewhittle about The First Moon

The First Moon restaurant in icmeler is excellent. it is owned by catherine, a lovely lady from nottingham who has picked a great team in her chefs and managers Errol and Memmet. They are very friendly and welcoming and the food is fantastic. Head towards the beach on the main street and turn right up the street opposite Artemis restaurant and the first moon is approx 200 yards on the left. The only problem is, once you have been you probably won't want to go anywhere else! The whole menu is excellent with something for everyone all cooked to perfection. the lobster which is ordered in advance and bought fresh for you that morning is a real treat.

Turf & Surf Boat Trip

by redrhino12

This is a very good boat trip.
Take the bus along the Bozburun Penninsular from Icmeler, this takes about 45 mins to were the boat will leave.
Only 26 people are allowed on this boat and this is the amount of sunbeds on the top deck.
When you arrive at the boat you are offered tea or coffee before you set off on this adventure.
Music is always quiet and layed back, the scenery is georgeous and the sea crystal clear.
You will visit a ruined monastery on a hilltop were you can take pictures looking out over the bay to the mountains.
After a couple of swimming stops you then arrive at the American House, this is a huge abandoned estate built by a Turkish man for his American wife, and for reasons unbeknown to me was just left as you see it,furniture, beds etc all inside the house which is kept locked, there is a caretaker looking after the property.
Fantastic views are to be seen from the patio at the front of the house ,peace and tranquility reign.
It is while you are berthed here lunch is taken, bread, salad, meatballs, chicken ,more than enough to satisfy anyones appetite.

Saying goodby to these peacefull surroundings you then head out across the bay and visit another couple of secluded coves again for swimming breaks before returning to the small jetty were we set off.

A bus journey again brings us back to Icmeler
