More about Akdeniz Beach
Great location, poor accommodation
11-05.2008 Just returned from Oledunitz which was a late change of destination from Tunisia.
Little info available on the Akdeniz Beach hotel but was told by the travel agent it was a four sun rating. Four sun isn't four star. Think Travelodge but not quite as good. Basic accommodation, clean and functional but not a memorable experience. The staff were okay but it doesn't cater for the wide range of guests. Loud music at night with small children present is not a good mix. I felt that the hotel is still trying to identify its core business group. Few additional features apart from the swimming pool (meticulously cleaned and its greeatest asset) to keep guests amused. Pool table at extra charge, table tennis table but both located in an unlit corner
Hotel location in the town was good as it allowed direct access to the beach and shops but let down by poor food choice. If you're looking for a little pampering, don't try here. Breakfast choice for all inclusive guests comprised eggs (omellette, fried or boiled), sausage and chips. Salad option available. Full english was available to anyone off the street but at a cost of 7.5 lire. Evening meal was soup, a choice of two main courses salad and some desserts. The fresh fruit was oranges and occasionally apple which had turned brown and never eaten.
Plenty of alternative eateries in the town and good deals to be found. Definetely try N'joy and have the house special steak - delicious.
Watch out for the occasional trader who wants to rip off the tourist. Supermarket Secur on the main street charged 11 lire (£5) for a bottle of water which should have been 2 lire at most.
If you take the jeep safari, check that the rain cover is present. Ours wasn't and the trip was abandoned halfway through with no recompense. We had to resort to wearing bin liners to protect against the buffetting winds and driving rain.
We did visit the Ghost town and Sakalin gorge (highly recommended)
Guys, make sure you have a shave and enjoy the head and neck massage.
Everyone must have a turkish bath, preferably at the start of the holiday as it cleans up the skin, ready for the suntan. Loads of choice but be aware that once in, the staff will try to sell massage packages. We had our turkish at Laras along with the massage. Very relaxing but the reflexology didn't resemble any previous experience. Lie back and enjoy
This was our first time in Turkey and overall it was very positive.
Note that the Turkish national airline doesn't do meals in flight. they serve sandwiches and drinks.
Dalaman airport has KFC, MacDonalds etc but at 22 lire (£9) for a meal, it can be costly particularly if you pay in sterling as the exchange rate is lower. We got a higher rate in the shops at Oledunitz (£1 = 2.40 lire) than in the UK (£1 = 2.28 lire). Take minimum currency with you and you'll fare better.
Take a trip to Fethiye on the Dolmus bus service and go to the fish market; buy some fish and go to the fruit / spice market where it'll be cooked for you for 4-5 lire and will be served with salad, bread etc. Wonderful!
The Turkish people are very friendly and only occasionally did we encounter the hard sell unlike Egypt where it was a real nuisance. A polite No Thank you is accepted.
There is a 90 minute hydrofoil service from Fethiye to Rhodes from May 15 which looks great. We didn't do any of the boat trips or the paragliding but those are being saved for next time.
In summary, Oledunitz is a great chill out place in May with no huge shopping malls, just sunshine (most days), beautiful views, delicious food (in the towns restaurants) and Turkish pancakes with apple tea.
Pity about the hotel but if we'd have more time, we'd have checked with Trp Adviser and probably changed.
me and my boyfriend (age 21+24) stayed at the akdeniz beach hotel in september '07. We stayed 2 weeks b&b. Breakfast- AWFUL! and i'm not fussy! Staff look dirty, food area looks dirty, chef looks dirty! REALLY OFF-PUTTING! but don't panic! That's the beauty of olu deniz, the choice of resteraunts are endless! We had breakfast at one of the resteraunts on the beach every morning. Much better! The rooms and corridors are spotlessly clean, you can't fault the maids! clean room, bathroom and bed sheets everyday we were there!
Location- Exellent! Beach literally 60 second walk away! Blue lagoon- turn right at the beach and walk for 15min? lovely walk along the beach though. You pay arouind 2lira to get through the gates! once tour there, it's not what you expect! at all! it's not blue! Tiny fish swimming around! put it this way, we went there once in the whole two weeks! Just stay at the beach, it's great. Lovely views, always PLENTY of sun loungers, well spaced out for your own privacy. Showers on the beach. Water- very wavy at times! funny though! could be dangerous for those who dont want to lift their feet off the ground! but i can't swim and i live to tell the tale. Sun loungers 5lira each for the whole day, umbarella an extra 5lira. u can leave your towels on them when u go to one of the restaraunts fo lunch.
Boat trips- We had awful experience, really wavy, and the way you get on the boat is to walk up the ramp, but the waves just raise the ramp by like 5 -6 meters off the ground, WHILST YOUR ON IT! very scary indeed! people were nearly falling off into the sea, not for the faint hearted! You'll see when you get there, whitness a few before booking one so you can see for yourself!
on the beach front there's a taxi renk and a dolmush (mini bus) ranc. in the evening it's worth a trip up to Hisaronu, u just jump on and pay wen u get off. 2lira each? loads of resteraunts and shops! If your in between two mind as to stay in olu deniz or hisaronu- like we were. defo stay in olu deniz! you got the beach, few shops, resteraunts. in hisaronu, you'd have to get the bus everyday to olu deniz beach!covered in sand and wet towels.
i would stay in akdeniz beach again, and not eat there! it's probably the best located hote, but quiet enough to get to sleep. pool area is fine, staff look dirty everyday all day, but we didn't speak to them all holiday really. just enjoy thge beach, sun and food!buzz bar and help bar on beach front were great. open roof tops where u can sit looking over the sea day and night. fantastic.
Lets not forgett the bean bags on the beach at nigh. Chilled ot atmosphere, chilled out music, a drink in one hand lokking up at the stars! WAW! u just think to yourself when your laying there, cant't believe i'll be in work this time next week. Ha!
another tip- St Nicholas beach, it's the other side of the lagoon, u pay 5 lira in a taxi to get there, takes bout 4 min, too far to walk though. its great there! go early though!
Buy frozen water from the shops for the day. its 1lira. saves u loads money! stays cold all day!
what else? paragliding, boyfriend did it, loved it.
Jeep saffari, was ok. If i was only there a week i wouldn't bother! along the beach you'll find a little bowling alley hidden away underground. Look out for the sign.
Defo stay in olu deniz, stay at akdeniz, its fine for what u need it for. Just don't eat there!
Awfull hotel in a nice place
We haven't had any towel in our room, when i ask for it, they told me they don't have loundry in the hotel, they have to take dirty towels to city to get cleans. We have stayed near a week and we only managed to get clean hand towels.
Thanks goodness we have only stayed in a bed and breakfast board. I wanted to get a glass of water and glass was filty.
Oludeniz is a beautiful place. I will definetly go back there but not Akdeniz beach.
Just returned from The Akdeniz Beach. Rooms were okay & sheets cleaned frequently. However the food was terrible. For every meal we had cold chips. Every lunchtime there was spaghetti with a watery red sauce. Dinner was supposed to start at 7.30 but the assistant chief started cooking the chips at 6.30 every night and if you didn't get there at 7 there was nothing left. We had very thin cheap beefburgers and one night there was chicken wings but they had run out by 7.30. Eventually they did cook a few more but the staff helped themselves to these. Also they weren't cooked enough. Chicken wings are 10 for a £1 in Asda. The coffee machine broke and they brought out andold boiler which gave both my husband and I electric shocks. Then there were black bits in the bottom of the cups so he had to wash it out & the next day it had run out of water.so then we couldn't have coffee or tea. The drink machine was switched off so the drinks were warm. They ran out of Vodka & lemonade and the diet coke was flat. We didn't see any snacks at all & had frozen plain cake with the tea. Flies often settled on the food as it was uncovered most of the time. The asst chief used to lean on the food counter smoking. At breakfast he looked at the empty egg dish and walked off smiling but didn't refill it. The bread and honey were nice though. Olu Deniz was a lovely resort but definitely wouldn't go to this hotel again.
ok people where shall i start .my husband and i booked this holiday through a travel agent so we paid nearly 400.00 more than most people in the hotel we only went bed and breakfast and friends we made at the hotel had gone all inclusive which did make me a little mad i.i would tell u that if you go this hotel then do go all in not for the food but for the soft drinks that you get free as we had to pay for ares an at 1.20 a small cup you can see what i mean the hotewl is basic clean and remeber a holiday is what you make it .if the hotel was so good you would never come away from it an you would not get the chance to see all what olu deniz has to offerand believe me you do not want to miss that some of the hotels near by are amazing out of this world but the prices are akdeniz beach cheapest in town you only get what you pay for we are going to book up again for 2008 july just use this hotel for somewhere to put your head at night an go an meet all the lovley people in turkey .can i say hello gary an jez an your 2 lovley wifes hope to see in july .from tht strange couple from stoke-on-trent
the akedeniz beach on an all inclusive basis is not worth it dreadfull food and kitchen staff help themselves to food before guests.rooms ok but maintance very bad such as new light bulbs we didnt get any after asking 3 times. my hairdryer caught fire shortly after we arived .the only thing i can say about this hotel it is in a perfect location near to the beach and nightlife would definetly not go back to this hotel unless it was self catering and greatly improved all round
Poor Hotel - Fantastic area
We booked this as a late getaway for my husbands birthday. The hotel room was a nice size and very clean, the maids would leave flowers in our room most days which was lovely. We were on an all inclusive basis but like the reviews before the food was not good and yes like the review before this the staff did help themselves to the food first. Luckily for us we didn't pay a lot for the holiday so we didn't mind eating out every evening, there are some fantastic restaurants in olu deniz such as 'Captain Hooks', 'The Buzz Beach bar and restaurant' plus many others. If you want a bar with a good vibe then try 'The Tequila Bar' this was my favourite. Again the area around the pool was quite dangerous so don't take children there. We spent nearly every day at the beach. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely return to olu deniz but will try a different hotel.
Stayed here for 2 long weeks from september 07 until October 07 must say worst place I have ever been to. All Inclusive is a joke they ran out of vodka and lemonade. No snack bar you have to pay. No entertainment food very similar with rice and spaghetti and chips and tomatoe sauce for dinner, tea cous cous, veg in sauce meat in sauce or fish or chicken/pork. Alchohol available Gin, Vodka, Lager, Raki. Other brands you had to pay for. Breakfast was usual continental bread, cheese, cooked meats, boiled eggs, cucumber, tomatoes and very cheap cereal. How this is a 3 star I don't know. Rooms ok a bit dated with only 1 bedside table and when a single was added made it quite tight.
Getting into bath/shower quite difficult as quite a large step over bath to get in. Would I go again - No - No would I go to Turkey either if Olu Deniz is the best I would hate to see the worst.
Please read this and go somewhere else.
Got to be the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. The food was awful although it did improve slighty on the second week of our stay but only because we complained to the rep. The salads never varied and neither did the breakfast, Coffee machine broke so did the urn that it was replaced with, they then used a kettle that usually ran out of water as the staff served themselves before the holiday makers. The rooms were ok basic but clean. the bar continually ran out of lemonade diet coke and vodka had to put in a complaint to have some more bought. the day before we were due to leave they started to empty the pool as the hotel was closing the next day, there were six of us left and they started removing the sun loungers, umbrellas and tables all around us. Although we were not due to leave until the following afternoon once breakfast was finished (yesterdays eggs) they removed everything. There was not even a cup to get a glass of water let alone lunch before we left. It has got to have been the most unfriendly, unwelcoming hotel i have ever come across.
Turkey is a lovely country and this experiance will not stop me going again but i will not be returning to this hotel.
Loved The Akdeniz
We have just got home from a great 1 week holiday at The Akdeniz .
There was my husband and myself and our 17 year old daughter and 12 year old son, we all had a brilliant holiday.
When we arrived the staff couldn't have been more helpful both with information and carrying our rather heavy cases to our rooms. We had booked 2 rooms next to one another and when we went in there wasn't a sharp intake of breath at what was there, however they were basic but very clean, and they stayed that way as there was maid service every day with an abundance of towels and clean bedding mid week.
As we were there the first week of the season it was very quiet and not everything was up and running but the staff were very obliging and friendly.
We got friendly with the entertainment team and found out that the management was all new and that they had signed up to run the hotel for 5 years and had lots of plans to improve it further, they had already built the building that houses the reception area, dining room and 8 new bedrooms, also the pool bar and toilets by the pool.
The food was ok and overall good value for money, the bar was always staffed and we never had any problems getting what we wanted. If we weren't happy with the food on offer they were happy to make us something else if it was possible.
Our daughter wants to go back to the hotel later this year with her friends and we would be happy for her to go there as we felt very safe for her first holiday abroad with friends.
To sum it up we had a fab holiday and would be happy to go back ourselves , we loved Turkey and the people. The position of the hotel is perfect for the beach for sunbathing or the great nightlife that is on offer down there.
If you want a relaxed holiday with friendly people , clean rooms with comfortable beds then this fits the bill, but if you want palatial surroundings with hote cuisine don't go , but if you do please remember you are not in the UK and so go with the flow and don't expect the standards we have in this country and you wont be disappointed.
