    by

We have just returned from the Grand Cettia and I cannot even begin to understand the negative comments, the place was brilliant, my kids 11 & 14 had fantastic time, the food was plenty even though it was a half term week and the place was full, there was something for everyone, including vegeterians, the staff were working chearfully so hard and kept everyone's spirit so high.

What I found great is the staff were so brilliant with everyone and each other, they were like a big close family and nothing was too much trouble for them, they were always sorting things out there and then with a smile.

The hotel is up a hill which created views second to none, being slightly higher with the Marina view was great during sunrise and sunset.

The turkish bath and the spa are brilliant, the massages are excellant, they definatly work.

As for the 4 star, this was much better holiday than when we stayed in 5 stars before and paid more than double, there was something about the realxed happy atmosphere you've either got it or you don't, and this place definatly deserve more than 4 stars for the atmosphere alone.

Unique Quality: Turkish Bath, Massage, Amazing atmosphere, brilliant views of the harbour

Fantastic Family Resort!! Hotel food questionable - accommodation great!!

by TripAdvisor Member sun_and_sn0w

We have just returned from a week at the Club Cettia Apartments & Hotel. (28th May - 4th June 07). We travelled as a family; myself , my husband and our son (10 years). We booked through Thomas Cook last minute and got a very good deal. We stayed in the apartments side of the resort, but used the facilites at the hotel too (We also upgraded to Half Board - see comments under hotel restaurants below) .

I want to give you an honest review of this property highlighting the positives and negatives (which lets face it you get with every hotel). It might seem a long review, but take the time to read it. My huband and I are well travelled (across the carribean and Europe) and have much to compare this resort to.

Having searched but not found many reviews on this hotels prior to going we were not sure what to expect. We did check out the hotels website [--] which seemed nice, but being well seasoned travellers we know not to rely wholey on pretty pictures.

Overview:
The Club Cettia Resort comprises of the Apartments and Hotel, both of which have their own pool and other facilities, and are linked together in one resort. You can use all the facilities at the resort regardless of which part you stay in. The hotel sits above the apartments on a small hill, which gives great views of Marmaris and the surrounding hills, and a nice breeze during the day. Although there is wheel chair friendly access I don't think it is ideal for wheel chair users on the Apartment side.

Facilities:
Apartments: These are the self catering side of the resort.
The rooms are amazing for Turkey standards and live up easily to the 4* they are advertised as. Recently refitted and spacious, with a modern feel. The apartment block overall was well maintained and very nice. We had an apartment with a kitchenette, table to seat 4 people, lounge with double sofa bed and seperate double bedroom and bathroom. All well decorated and very clean and tidy. Also a nice balcony. The cleaner did a great job and the room was always spotless.

The apartments side facilities themselves consist of:

Swimming Pool - A reasonable size pool with a good size twisting water slide (great for the kids) and operates for half an hour every hour. There are a good amount of sun beds, but you need to get down early to get one reserved. (I personally prefer the Hotel pool and sunbeds).

Pool side bar / restaurant: Great food and reasonably priced. Good selection of food for the kids too. (also try Star Bux across the road from the hotel for great food and drink).

Games room: Good selection of game machines, dart board and pool table (All chargable). Didn't use this facility so can't really comment much here.

Hotel:
This is the AI side of the resort. Didn't see the rooms, but heard some good reports. The hotel facilities themselves matched the standards of the apartments and were very nice and modern. Definately 4* feel.

The Hotel side facilities themselves consist of:

Swimming Pool - A great size pool with a different water slide(again, great for the kids) which operates for half an hour every hour (and it did). There were a good amount of sun beds, (more new ones arrived while we were there) but you need to get down early to get one reserved as everyone else does!! (I personally prefered the Hotel pool to that at the apartments - nice feel to it and lots of activities for the kids).

Pool side entertainment / activities - there is a lovely day time presence from the entertainment team at this pool, with lots of games and pool activities for adults and kids alike. They also organise Volley ball, Football and Darts and Pool matches throughout the day. A real family resort. Good music all day from 10:00 to 18:00.

Snack Bar / Restaurant / Bar - This is where I feel the hotel part of the resort is let down. The quality of the food is very dull and repetative and typical mass market AI food. We stayed in the apartments but upgraded to half board. We only eat in the hotel one breakfast and one evening, which was enough to be honest as every time we looked at the food it was the same old thing. There was very little food that appeals to children (and adults). My honest assessment of the food is that it is designed to cater for the europeans (german/dutch and italians) and not so much the british. Go self catering.

Games room/ Games Courts: Selection of game machines, dart board and pool table (All chargable). Didn't use this facility so can't really comment much here, but looked o.k. There is a volley ball court, football pitch and tennis court.

Overall...... great family orientated resort, safe and very well run. The hotel maintenance guy was always working around the resort touching up minor things as they came up (which was great). The resort is always being cleaned, the water is regularly swept away from around the pool and there is non slip matting in place. They clean the tiles outside areas with a floor cleaner every night and take great pride in the hotel standards - which is refreshing. My recommendation would be to stay in the apartments and go self catering - but use the hotel pool facilities.

A word of advice - the Hotel snack bar and bar are very expensive if you are not AI - 4YTL (£1.60) for a small beer and 3 YTL (£1.20) for a small soft drink. At the snack bar they charge a lot of money (£5) for a few small slices of pizza and french fries. My advice is to go to the pool bar at the apartments for lunch (which is much more reasonable) and take some bottles of water to the pool with you. Alternatively, if you have kids, then it may be worth upgrading to AI for £12 an adult a day & £6 a child a day, as by the time you have bought a few drinks and lunch/snacks for you and kids each day it soon adds up. Just eat out at night - you will enjoy it more that way. You can upgrade to AI or HB once you are there.

In summary: stay in the apartments, go SC & upgrade to HB or SC if you wish in resort. Eat out at night and use the pool facilites etc at the hotel. Would recomment this resort to families.... personally I don't think it is suited to couples wanting a quiet break, however nice it is.

Fantastic holiday!

by TripAdvisor Member Pisces163

Recently returned from a week’s holiday (half term) at the Club Cettia, and I would definitely recommend this accommodation. In fact, we are planning to return in October. We had just wanted a quiet week in the sun to recharge our batteries, but it far exceeded our expectations.
We got a good late deal and were pleased with Thomas Cook/JMC. The outbound flight was fine, we didn't have long to queue for our visa at Dalaman airport - don't forget £10 per person in each passport, must be English pounds. The journey to Marmaris didn't seem to take anything like the 2 hours stated in some brochures. If you're lucky enough to be traveling during the day, there's some beautiful scenery, and you do get a rest break for 15 minutes at some services half way through the journey, where you can buy snacks; drinks and use the toilets. We received a warm welcome at the Club Cettia when we arrived. We were staying in the apartments, which I have to say are lovely and really well furnished. Apparently they have been upgraded over the winter. The living area had laminate flooring, sofa bed, air conditioning, new kitchen (oven, hob, fridge, microwave, kettle), dining table & chairs, patio doors onto large balcony (though all balconies not the same size - depends where you are), separate double bedroom - enough wardrobe space etc, lovely bathroom (always plenty of hot water). Everything was wonderfully clean. The maids came in daily, we had fresh towels; we even got a bunch of fresh flowers half way through the week.
I'm glad we were staying self catering, after reading reviews about the hotel food before we went, and also after listening to holidaymakers while we were there, who were staying in the hotel. It sounds like the food up there isn't up to much. Some people used the pool and facilities up at the hotel, but to be honest, our family much preferred the pool and bar area at the apartments. I think the guys that work down there make your holiday really great. Mark and his team work so hard to make sure you have a wonderful holiday. Ash, Tom, Andy, Bobby and all the lads (sorry I can't remember everybody's names!) work incredibly hard from first thing to midnight and after. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so polite, friendly and hardworking. They keep the pool area really clean and tidy, and work hard to keep you entertained all day (if that's what you want. Believe me it’s not 'in your face' if you just want to be quiet and 'observe'). They are such a credit to Mark and to the hotel. There's a slide into the pool which is open and supervised at regular intervals during the day (the pool is deep and there isn't a shallow end - but there is a great kiddies pool next to it for the little ones).
We had the cooked English breakfast every morning down by the pool which was fantastic and really good value. There was a good menu for snack type meals during the day, and meals were good value in the evening if you didn't want to stray very far. Drinks from the bar are reasonably priced too.
One thing we did go up to the hotel for was the beauty salon and health spa which I would definitely recommend. The prices are much, much cheaper than in England, and you are treated so well.
We had pedicures, manicures, & eyebrow shaping. My husband had a haircut and 2 Turkish shaves which he would definitely recommend - ask for Jay, he's brilliant.
I used the spa every day, it was such good value. You must have a Turkish bath (hamam) preferably on your first day. The relaxing massage was fantastic - try and get Svec (I think that's how it's spelt) to do both these. Adem is great for reflexology. The best treatment of all that I had was the Hot Stone Massage with Neval. I have never experienced anything like it and Neval is brilliant.
If you pay for anything in English pounds you get a much better deal. We couldn't get our heads round this at first, as this was our first trip to Turkey, but the Turks love you to pay in English money. They accept notes and £1/£2 coins, so don't worry about taking more sterling than Lira. We will be doing next time.
Club Cettia is in the Amutulan area of Marmaris, and it took us 15 minutes to walk down to the main area and sea front. The main strip by the sea is a bit more 'touristy', but if you want something a bit more upmarket I would definitely suggest the Marina/Old Town/Castle area of the resort. You will probably pay a little more for your meals, but its worth it especially if you get a restaurant with rooftop dining. The views are lovely.
Yes, you do get asked at each restaurant that you pass to come and dine with them, but it really isn't that much of a problem. Just politely say no thanks and move on. However, when you do choose somewhere to eat, they are so pleased, and genuinely can't do enough for you. There's every type of food available to eat. The resort caters for lots of nationalities; it's not just a 'Brit' resort. Our favourite restaurant was the Jan de Wit - definitely worth a visit.
It's very easy and straight forward to get down to the resort center - just flag down a number 3 dolmus outside the apartments and get off wherever you want. Its 1ytl each, and is a circular route, so you just catch it on the way back after your night out.
I imagine that Marmaris is very busy during the main part of the season, and wouldn't be just what our family would want, but it's great for May and I imagine it will be in October.
We didn't do any trips, or go to the welcome meeting or meet the TC/JMC rep, so sorry; can't comment on them. Anyway, if you need anything just ask Mark.
This was our first time to Turkey, and we have travelled to lots of other countries in the past. I have to say though that Turkey will now be our main holiday destination, and I look forward to visiting other resorts, particularly Ovacik, Olu Deniz and Fethiye and eventually less 'touristy' resorts in time. The Turkish people are wonderful.
If you decide on the Club Cettia you'll get a warm welcome from Mark and the team, and you'll be staying in great accommodation, with fantastic weather. What more could you wish for? Have a great holiday!

excellant choice of apartments

by TripAdvisor Member spamjan

i have just returned from my first visit to marmaris and want to go back again! my family and i stayed at club cettia apartments and they were great, the apartments have recently been done re-vamped and it shows everything looks and feels new. the lobby area looks splendid and the staff at reception are very helpful. air con is FREE , pool area kept clean and tidy although we had friends staying round the corner at the sayar apartments and tended to use their pool as ours got very crowded and couldnt get sunbeds. all staff extremley nice and helpful. the hotel food didnt have goods reviews from the few people we talked to, although i would recommend you take a turkish bath there, it was excellant. we haggled a bit and got a turkish bath, use of stream room and sauna and then a full body massage for £22.
the apartments are in a great position, they are approx 10 mins gentle walking distance from main drag, there are plenty of bars and restraunts to visit on the way. the best breakfast to be had is across the road at STARBUXS, diane and her partner are great, they will help with any questions about excursions or directions . they helped us organise our quad biking day(bargain at £15 a head). if hiring a boat go directly to harbour and haggle a price we got a 30 seater boat for 10 of us with lunch and all you could drink for £14 each. we went out at 9.30am and the boat stopped about 5 times for us to swim and snokell, had a lovely lunch got dropped off at about 4.30pm.
the dolomus are great can get on them virtually any where and cost next to nothing. restaurants on the main drag are very good but be warned you pay alot more for drinks on this stretch (mainly due to having the younger age group there).
all in all club cettia apartments and marmaris are brill.

Above average rooms for Marmaris

by TripAdvisor Member Vinegarhill

We stayed in the Cettia apartments around five/six years ago and it was the first time we had visited Turkey - with it being our first time in Turkey we did not know what to expect or that the Cettia was a little away from the centre but from memory we enjoyed it all the same - enough anyway to go back after staying previous years at the Kocer in the centre {2004 grubby - noisy - but very central} Atrium {clean central and nice staff 2003} and icmeler {2002} We had read some reviews saying that the apartments had been done up and we were not dissapointed - this was the first time we had timber floors rather than tiles, nice modern furniture and a tv thrown in - the kitchen was a small studio type modern arrangement - not that it was used at all. The staff were very friendly including the maids, bar staff and front desk.

We ate out every night and year on year we are noticing it is getting
more expensive - i remember the first time we went to turkey we could
not spend our holiday money - but that was not the case this time. We
like the Dost restuarant on the front - good food and reasonably priced. so was the Jan de Vit {bit pricier though} on this occasion we were very disapointed with Natalies Steak house - we were all served overdone steaks rather than medium let alone well done - when i brought it to the attention of the waiter he was none to pleased and insisted i eat another ten minutes after everybody else had finished. Possibly just an off night but i think this is their secodn
place rather than the original along the front. Staff at Captains Pub
again very very nice and avery accomodating re seating and as usual first class with the kids.

marmaris july 08 grand cettia appartments ..... amazing ..... we have just returned from 2 wks in grand cettia appartments and we are all sad to be back home .there was 13 of us all family ,4 rooms in total we had and they were all lovely modern and clean only fault is no toaster ,thats the only thing i can think of .

it was our 1st time to turkey so we were all a bit nervous as you read some reveiws which are off putting ,but what can i say the worry was for nothing ,its the best place ever and so are all the people we met diane and adam who are the owners of starbux cafe across the road fantastic food ,wonderfull ppl diane was like our own rep ,so helpfull and adam well what can i say a true gentleman [my dad is elderly and on our last night there he had a bad fall ,adam was there in a flash to follow the ambulance and took us to the hospital .stayed with us and brought us home and would take nothing off us for this thank you sooo much dianne and adam ,we miss you both. we will always remember you both.

Fab =)

by TripAdvisor Member x-xkaylax-x

We stayed at the Cettia Apartments 30th May - 14th June 2008 and had a great time (apart from one of the party having an accident). There was 1 adult, 1 teenager and 2 children in our party and overall we had a brilliant time!

When we first arrvied we were disappointed with the accomodation, due to staying in better accomodation on a previous visit to turkey, but once we saw it all in the day time we were much happier. The staff at the apartments were really friendly and happy to help at all times. The bar staff were all hilarious especially Ash and were always chatting and trying to help! And the entertainment was great every night and the music during the day thanks to Tom =) and can;t forget to mention the hairdresser Jenny from the hotel, a lovely lady if you need any info just ask ... she should be the rep at the hotel.

The food at the bar was good but a little overpriced, so we went to starbux across the road, Adam is brilliant there =), it was really cheap here and had games for the children. Would also recommend Sarah's bar great bunch of people and great food, you must go to their Turkish night! Only place I wouldn't recommend would be Castle's next to the apartments we found the food swimming in grease and the staff were not friendly at all.

The swimming pool was great always kept clean and tidy, but the slide is very dangerous. Nobody is there to supervise and we found children coming down together in groups, and this caused an accident with one of the children in our group who had to recieve hospital treatment, be carfeul if you have to go to the hospital as they keep your passports unless you pay the bill in full and ours was £1000.

The local shops were ok, although was much cheaper at the markets for most things. The convience shop opposite the hotel we found very good and the man there was really helpful and friendly... he also has a good exhange rate for your english money! The shops in Marmaris town centre were good would recommend the shopping centre, and the weekly markets in Marmaris and Icmeler are even better you can get some really bargains... just haggle!!!

Overall our holiday was great thanks to the the hotel staff and the locals. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody and would love to go back some time as the 2 weeks went really quickly :)

If you need any extra info just mail me at kaylaj3000_1@yahoo.co.uk =)

Brilliant place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member Scottie09

Just returned from here with the family and our stay was a brilliant experience, The staff were above average, especially the spa area of the hotel where nothing was too much trouble and Emra, guest relations, was terrific and took time to explain and show the hotel and amenities Rooms, public areas and pool were well maintained. Not too keen on the evening entertainment although this was fine for the children both in the hotel and the Edge Bar. Well placed for visits to local attractions and the town of Marmaris itself with a bus service immediately outside which runs every 3 -4 minutes and stops anywhere you want. Another excursion I would highly recommend is a visit to the Talk of the Town in Marmari which is a very professional show. We would definately recommend this Hotel and will return there in the near future.
