Wild accomodation
by omehes about Turkmen tree house
We did not stay in this tree house "hotel", only visited it. We found the whole place amazing. The Turkmen Tree Houses lies on the banks of a small river right next door to Lycian ruins of Olympos. We had a nice freshly squeezed orange juice in one of those wooden cabins with cushions for seats and enjoyed the calm of the area. What a place to spend holidays! Cushion-laden lounging areas are perched on the edge of the riverbank. You can walk down to the beach or swim in the small river flowing into the sea. You see ruins all around the mountainous site and you can pick lemons from the trees standing around them. The wooden houses look amazing. It's a wonderful place to enjoy the green nature, warm sun and history.
JUST WANTED HOME FROM THIS PLACE

The Green Nature hotel really needs to look at how the place is managed. On arrival the reception/check-in whas a free for all who would not tell us where the room was without the help of a bell boy who refused to leave the room without a tip. We had not exchanged any money so gave him 2 pound coins which was frowned upon in no uncertain terms by his actions.
The restaurant is so busy (1800 pax) that it is almost like the emptying of a football ground after the match!! Dinner is served between 7pm and 9pm but if you try to avoid the early rush by leaving it until about 8.30pm - expect to have overcooked and messy food with very little choice (down sized) available because they have already started the clearing process. If you want Ice cream then expect to queue for at least half an hour for the twice weekly rations of it.
After all the mania of dinner you just want a drink at the bar but if the beer has not run out and you actually get an english speaking bar person who is not rude then your beer is served in a plastic cup (not quite 5*) and not much more than half full so that you have to queue at the bar again for a top up.
Now lets get to the entertainment - well that's provided by the team of youngsters who entertain (or annoy) the people at the pool. They pull people from the crowd who then are the entertainment for the night.
The rooms are adequate and clean.
Never again!!!! It has put us off All Inclusive holidays and we will never eat from a buffet again!

Never Again
by TripAdvisor Member adynnat
We stayed at this hotel in June 2006, after my other half needed to book a 'quiet' break at short notice.
But to our cost, we found that this was ANYTHING but quiet.
We have taken holidays in Turkey on many occasions and have found them to be excellent and everything we want.
Of course if you like a lively resort marmaris is the one for you, but if you want a quiet break keep away from this Blackpool of Turkey.
Our room at this tired hotel was directly above the air-conditioning unit and emergency generator which was run on several occasions during the stay. It was so noisy we couldn't hear ourselves speaking in the rooms without having to shout. In fact we called our travel agents Thomas Cookone afternoon, and even they on the phone asked 'Whatever is that noise'
The rubbish of this hotel and others close by is heaped up in the streets below the hotel, which in the heat had a certain aroma as was such the heat of the day. The rubbish was often collected during the early hours by rubbish collectors who did nothing to respect the fact that holiday makers were probably asleep in their rooms. These rubbish collectors could often be seen sifting through the rubbish removing empty 'Mineral Water' bottleswhich no doubt wouldfind themselvesfilledwith local water and fed back into the restaurant chain.
The rooms were very basic and the air conditioning unit was hopelessly inadequate.
And now to the 'quiet bit!'.
About 10am, the quiet relaxing atmosphere around the pool was shattered by one of the 'Animation' party, generally a russian guy shouting 'Pool Party....Pool Party...come and play Polo...play polo....'follwoed by endless night club type music, that the relentlessly went onin various forms until close to mid-night.
So if you want a quiet holiday, DON'T come here!
We did complain to ourlocal repabout these things, especially the noisy room, but to no avail, and despite the fact that members of the animation team told us that the hotel was very quiet, only being about half full, it wasn't until we dragged the manager to our room when the generator had kicked in on the penultimate night, that we actually got a room change. At least we got a quiet night before having to travel home.
You will also find that the Spa staff are very friendly, if not a nuisance until you have booked for a Turkish Bath or something similar. Then once you have been rippedoff by being charged a hgher cost than the promotions staff have shown you, strangely you are left alone! I wonder why?!!
I am sorry, but this place was not my cup of tea and much better value and quality can be found elsewhere. The hotel is tired, noisy and a con.
We have tried taking this up with Thomas Cook, but don't waste your time. Their customer's relation department is little better than this hotel, and even managed to loose the photographs we sent to them to evidence what we experienced. Oh there's a suprise!
Just as well we've still got copies and I will try to post them onto this review.
My advice to you is stay well away from this dump and don't waste you vauable timetrying to get compensation from Thomas Cook. You would be better of banging your head against a brick wall, and believe you me, if you do try tolodge a complaint, their incompetent Customer Relations dept will soon drive you to despair!
What a waste of money

What a waste of money.
Air conditioning not working.
Staff very rude.
Food appalling, don't be late or it's gone....ate out most days.
Drinks in restaurant...if they run out of wine the waiters??? will TELL you to go to reception bar to get some.
Reception staff....was there any that could speak English?
Imported drinks, none available during our stay
Thomas Cook rep. trying.
Will write to Thomas Cook and ABTA giving details of complaints.
Would I return ? No , even if you offered me it for free.

Turkey at Xmas
by HandT
We are going to Turkey for 3 weeks over Xmas and new year and were thinking of spending a few days in Istanbul then traveling around the western , especially coastal areas of Turkey - any suggestions? Places to stay, who to get about - we were wondering about hiring a car but will that be necessary? Obviously it will be cold and the weather unpredictable but presumably the coast is milder than inland. we are an archaeologist and an ecologist so history and wildlife based suggestions are ideal.
Thanks!

:) somebody beat me -> go to Ephesus :) But you can stay in Selcuk instead of Kusadasi (20 km away), Efes is only 2-3 km away from Selcuk. Visit the greek village of Sirince too from Selcuk (or even stay over night there).
Have a look here; http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/57afb/1bd9e1/
I stayed at Derya Pension for 1 week when I was there this aug (and still had too litle time to see the famous museeum :( and haven't yet built my page)
The bus network in Turkey is amazing! You can take the overnight bus from Istanbul to Selcuk (or to Izmir and then change to the more local bus companies, ca 1 hour Izmir - Selcuk). I recomend the more expensiver bus companies as Pamukale and Boss (can't remember the other ones).

You can try Efes as previously stated. Also around Antalya region, there are a lot of historical places to discover like Patara,Myra,Olympos,Aspendos theatre. If you are interested in Canakkale wars, you can also visit Canakkale national park located in Canakkale city.
For ecological type of issues; you must visit black sea part of turkey.Especially the cities of Trabzon,Rize,Ordu,Artvin where you will be amazed from the beauty of nature.

Hello,
Turkey is a paradise for an archaeologist and an ecologist. After visiting Istanbul, you can choose two main regions to see around. The suggested regions are great; stay in Selçuk and see around, later move to Antalya region and see around. Eastern Black Sea costs have amazing wild green nature, but don't forget it will be much colder than the two areas mentioned formerly.
Buses go everywhere in Turkey, don't worry.
You should give Istanbul some more than few days, it is so big and amazing.
Cheers.
