Laid back Cruise Stop in Marmaris
by quiltmaker
Instead of taking an organized tour to Rhodes, we had a wonderful insight into a Turkish port city that we would call the Turkish Riviera. Many big yachts and pleasure craft and sail boats along the piers and big marina. It was very gorgeous...very tropical with lots of flowers. This was my fondest memory. Passing many harbour-front restaurants, there were lots of places to stop for a meal or a drink. Shopkeepers were courteous and humorous as they invited us in. Walking through the bazaar and shops and thru little alleys up to the simple Castle/Museum (small entry fee) was really enjoyable. Shopping here was the best bargain since they do not use Euros. It was thoroughly enjoyable if you were not wanting a history lesson.
Marmaris bus station

Marmaris bus station [Otagar] is slightly out of town, can be reached by Dolmus from anywhere in Marmaris. There are several offices selling tickets. Buses go to loads of places including Istanbul, Mugla, Ancara and Bodrum. Marmaris to Bodrum is 180 km.
DALYAN

Dalyan is a truly beautifull place. Its discribed as being one of the last corners of paradise and i for one think they are spot on. Overlooking the village are the fantastic Lycian rock tombs of the once kings also the anchient city of Caunos and its ruined amphitheatre and mud baths. When you get to Dalyan you will need to hop on a boat this will take you on a 40 minute trip to Istuzu beach traveling through the huge reeds and passing by the rock tombs. Incidentally the film African Queen starring Humphry Boggart was filmed in these reeds. On the way you can visit the Llica mud baths, our kids loved this. These mud baths are supposed to keep you young looking, it didn't work for my wife Ha Ha Ha. Istuzo beach is one of the last nesting grounds for the endangered Loggerhead turtles and i was lucky enough to see one.
MORE DETAILED PAGES OF THIS WONDERFUL PLACE CAN BE FOUND ON MY DALYAN PAGE, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK
