More about Hotel Karbel Sun
Loved our stay at the Karbel sun
14th October. One week stay
Just returned from the Karbel Sun hotel and know now why every
other reviewer raves about it. After an early morning arrival; decided to stay around the pool and we were made immediately welcome by Umit (the pool barman) who was really friendly and courteous throughout our stay - as were all the staff. The hotel is set among fruit trees and flowers and was like a little oasis. The rooms were basic but very clean and towels were changed on a daily basis. The breakfast ingredients (turkish cheese, tomatoes, olives, bread etc.) were extremely fresh and delicious.
We met some lovely and interesting people at Karbel Sun; all of whom had stayed there several times previously. The Turkish people worked so hard and such long hours, we were impressed at how they remained consistently enthusiastic, friendly and eager to help although they were tired out from working 16 hour days all season
The resort itself was a bit commercialised and some places were overpriced but that aside it's a really beautiful place with crystal clear sea and breathtaking scenery. We ate regularly at
Kumsal Pide, which was really cheap but good turkish food and Sultan pepper was also delicious food and value for money.
There are lots of trips from Olu Deniz ;and Fethiye is a half hour ride in a dolmus leaving from the seafront 3 lire each way.
The turkish bath at the Lycian hotel, (25 lira for the basic scrub and soap massage) was amazing ! the best I've had to date in Turkey . I will definitely return to Olu Deniz and would stay at the Karbel Sun every time.

p.s. Loads of eye candy girls !!
Great value for money
We stayed at The Karbel Sun for a week at the end of May. The room and bathroom was very basic but clean (I think we had a room in the oldest part of the hotel). The hairdryer was broken but once we reported it, it was fixed the next day.
The hotel staff are fantastic, the food is great and the pool area
was exceptionally clean.
On the negative side - the bedding and hotel towels are like cardboard!
Overall, we had a great time at the Karbel sun and it was really good value for the money we paid. The location is great and we'd definately stay there again for a buget holiday (although we might ask for a better room).
home sweet home!
Im back to reality after 2 wonderful weeks in Olu Deniz and again my stay at the Karbel Sun was the best ever. The staff at the Karbel Sun love to entertain you and know how to. There were Turkish nights with belly dancers a quiz night that was quite bazaar well the resaturant manager wrote it !!!! It was a fun and interesting night !!!! I was there when Turkey were playng football when they beat Croatia theses guy really know how to have fun I ended the evening covered in beer !! The restaurants were fab and the prices didnt seem to have increased from September. The bars are fabulous and if your going call into Shadows bar say hello to the guys there Casa Ramazan Jay Jay and Morris will entertain you all night ! I did a couple of days an a dive boat which was cool. The weather was brilliant during my last week there it was hitting 40 +!!!!! I have nothing but admiration for this wonderful country and its people who have the biggest hearts in the world. They remember you as if you were a part of their family and its has a real feel good factor! Im going back in September for more fun and games ! If you go you will have the time of your life if you dont you will regret it !! Have Fun I did!
Stayed at the Karbel Sun 16th may for a week. Two couples 20's and 30's and absolutely loved it. Rooms are clean with new bathrooms and are small but have all you need. Hair dryer in bathroom and small balcony. Ask for room 415 or 416 these have sea views and are lovely. Hotel itself has lots of sun beds and parasols, lovely pool bar and drinks and food really reasonable. staff here cannot do enough for you they really make your holiday.
Hotel is located at the top end of the strip but is still only five minutes walk to the beach and is next to all the restaurants bars and shops.
Olu Deniz is a lovely resort, try the paragliding and seven islands boat trip. we booked these through easy riders who were really good.
Will definately return .
Better than its star rating
We booked our holiday to Oludeniz through Holidaymate (Teletext Holidays) and stayed half board at the Karbel Sun. This was our first visit to Turkey.
The room - simple, quite small but clean. TV and air-con (we were not charged for this), but no other frills. Bathroom had shower with a proper shower tray. Very small balcony, but not sure why anyone would want to be sitting in their room or balcony anyway.
Swimming pool clean, and not crowded. Shallow end one side of the bridge, deeper the other.
Hotel staff were all very welcoming - all the people on reception, the restaurant staff, and the manager Ali, who takes time out to meet all his guests, and will remember your names!
Majority of people staying there were couples of all ages. Everyone got on - the friendliness of the hotel staff clearly rubs off on the guests!
Not many people were half-board, so we were served a set menu every night. It is a buffet style when there are more half-boarders. Meal consisted of garlic bread, soup of the day, a starter after that (mixed plate of cold starters, cheese rolls, mini-omelettes, etc) followed by main course and dessert. Main course always came with some salad, veg, rice and chips. You will not go hungry here! All food that is supposed to be hot is served hot (how often do you go on holiday when that is not the case?)
One night was buffet-style and this was the BBQ night (costs £10 each if not on HB). Similar structure, but choice on the buffet. Also included belly dancing act!
Drinks prices similar to near the beach - £2 for a beer. Wine quite pricey, in small glasses, or a by the bottle (£12 a bottle) but very good quality.
Breakfast is Turkish style - perfectly OK start to the day.
Having spoken to people who came into the hotel, but were staying elsewhere, I was asked if this was a 4 star hotel. The staff absolutely make this hotel - The service is easily 4 star. This hotel is not near the top of the list on Tripadvisor without good cause.
Great Hotel, staff fantasic!
I stayed in the Karbel Sun for 7 nights with my partner and another couple we are all under 25. We had 2 double rooms with showers (303 &304) which were both very clean and newly decorated. Rooms are slightly on the small side but more than enough for what we needed them for.
The pool area, bar and resturant are all very nice, extreamely clean. Beatiful flowers around and we had lemons trees right outside our terrace, lovely.
The staff really made our holiday, they are so friendly cannot do enough for you, and of you ask they will give you a lot of valuable local knowledge.
Olu Deniz is a really great place plenty to do, we ate out every night and never had a bad meal, the Secret Garden and the Olive Grove do amazing food.
My top tips
Do not book any trips with the holiday reps they will rip you off, we booked our boat trips with a company in the main street, the exact same trip for £10 and we spoke to a couple who had booked if through the rep, they had paid £26!
Take a bottle of frozen water with you to the beach, it stayed cold all day. Also the bars/cafe's on the beachs can be expensive
Eat the turkish food, its really good and much better than the english food they will cook for you.
If you are planning on going to Turkey in the summer i would not recommend taking any room with out air conditioning.
All in all had a fantasic holiday and would love to back to Turkey again and i probably would go back to the same hotel, mainly because the staff are so great!
Nice hotel, shame about the town.
My partner and I stayed at the Karbel Sun the last week in May, 2008. All the reviews we'd read on trip advisor were very positive so we were really looking forward to our break.
We arrived at the hotel at 7am and check in only took a few minutes and we had a porter to carry our bags to the room. First impressions of the hotel were good. Very well kept gardens and a reasonably sized swimming pool. First impression of the room was not so good. We had requested a double room but were given a twin. We had booked the holiday only a few weeks before so we didn't complain. The room was a bit on the small side as were the beds. The balcony was nothing short of a joke. Space only for 2 plastic chairs and a view of the rear of a shop and someone's washing line! The bathroom was of an ok size considering the room. Our friends were there 2 weeks before and stayed on the other side of the hotel and their room was small too so I think this is the norm. All rooms have a TV although they only have two English speaking channels (both news). All rooms have A/C but there is a charge of £3 per day to use it. The remote control for this was in our room when we arrived so we never paid for it but I dont know if that was normal or not. A fridge can be requested for your room but this is charged at £1 per day. Safety deposit boxes are also available at a charge and are located next to reception.
We were on a b&b basis so went for breakfast the morning we arrived. I wasn't impressed. It was a buffet style breakfast with not many options. Olives, cucumber, bread, cheese, stale cereal, room temperature milk. You could order a cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, eggs etc) but you had to pay for this. This was the first and last time we ate at the hotel. We heard the lunch and dinners were nice but not as cheap as the surrounding resturants.
The hotel was not very busy the week we stayed so we never struggled to get a sunlounger by the pool. The pool was a good size with a good deep end. A bar is situated by the pool which serves snacks and drinks. There is aslo a pool table (no charge to use). It has seen better days. Cloth is very worn and most balls have chunks missing out of them but it passes the time! We didn't spend to much time at the hotel but all the staff we dealt with were very pleasant and helpful and spoke very good English.
Now for the major downfall of our holiday. The town of Oludeniz itself. Having never heard of it before we went we weren't sure what to expect. We knew about the lagoon so thought the town was going to a be quiet, traditional Turkish seaside town with a few hotels dotted about. We couldn't have been more wrong. The running joke was the possible English translation of Oludeniz, "Mini Benidorm"! Every resturant has a few men outside trying to get your custom by putting on an awful cockney accent and saying "awite mate". Mildly amusing the first time you hear it but when you hear it 50 times a day it does get annoying. Especially when your Scottish! Every resturant (except the 2 chinese ones) sells the same things, full English breakfast served all day, egg and chips, steak and chips, chips and chips! Luckily most have a Turkish menu so you can at least try some local dishes. Lets face it, you can eat egg and chips any day of the week at home. The beach was ok although you have to pay for the sunloungers and the area at the waterfront is all shingle so very difficult to walk on. Also, when walking along the front, look out for landing paragliders. They all land next to the beach. I done the paragliding myself and can highly recommend it. The views are breath taking.
In summary, if you want Benidorm on a smaller scale, Oludeniz is the place for you. The hotel although small, is very nice with very pleasant staff.
Excellent weather.....30 degrees every day. The hotel was basic yet very nice...hotel obliged and moved us to a nicer room immediately...lovely pool area ideal for relaxing, nice cold swimming pool, excellent bar area with very friendly staff.
Food was very nice in the hotel.....also a bar called Cherry Chow down the strip did excellent value for money deals.......
Location was ideal, at the end of the strip, close to the restaurants and beach.
All in all - straight to the point - excellent value for money for a quick cheap week away to top up the tan.
Another fantastic holidayi in Oludeniz
I'll start by saying that this is our 3rd holiday in oludeniz in the space of 12 months, so needless to say we like it!
My girlfriend and I are both early 20's, and neither of us have been to a place where there is enough to satisfy everyones needs. From gorgeous sun & relaxing boat trips, to brilliant restaurants and great nights entertainment.
The hotel itself was perfect for us, in the centre of oludeniz, 5 mins from the front and a lovely setting. Rooms are adequately sized and very well looked after by the hotel staff daily. The staff can't do enough for you - the bar will stay open as long as you can stay awake (or stand!)
We didn't eat in the hotel to be honest, but that isn't for any reason other than we like to go out & try different restaurants - we alternate between oludeniz and hisaronu at night as both have a great selection.
In summary, great place, lovely hotel (see photo's) and we would, without doubt, recommend.
Oh, and as for the 'mini benidorm' statement someone previously mentioned - NOTHING could be further from the truth again, see pictures.
Thanks & enjoy.
Smashing little hotel
We had checked this hotel on trip advisor and chose it because of the good reviews. it did not let us down. Its not luxury it didnt cost luxury prices but the rooms are spotless and very functional. We had to ask for extra pillows which were provided immediately as was any other request we made. The staff are excellent. The manager Ali made a pont every day of speaking with the guests to ensure they were happy. Mehmet who appears to be the restaurant manager is also extrmely helpful. I needed to visit a dentist and one was arranged within hours something thats not so easy in this country.
The pool is beautiful and immaculately clean and there is not a problem with people reserving sun beds and not using them til the afternoon.
The only disappointment was breakfast which was the same everymorning unless you wanted to pay extra and got a bit tedious. The juice in the machines is very watery. The food at night and lunch times was good. I would recommend the pizzas, the turkish food but definitely not the burgers. We were B&B so dodnt eat in much.
