Olu Deniz and the Karbel Hotel were both great. The resort is ideal, its busy with plenty to do, without being over commercialised. It's ideal for everyone.
The staff at the Karbel really can't do enough for you. They come round the pool 3 times a day with 'morning drinks', then about 3pm is 'milkshake time' followed by 'afternoon tea'. Even at breakfast where it's self-service, they are on hand for whatever you might need. There is also a photographer at the hotel, Omar, who is about during the day and in the evening, capturing shots of everyone, whether it be mid-dive into the pool, or posing under a tree. There is no obligation at all for you to buy.
There is entertainment most nights including a BBQ night and Turkish night . The hotel works on a 'cashless' system, which means whenever you are buying drinks or food, it all gets charged to a card they issue you on check-in. We tried to pay the card off every few days, then we didn't lose track of what we had spent . The drinks are more expensive than out and about in Olu Deniz but I think that's the same wherever you go.
We stayed at the Karbel B&B so ate out every night and there were some great places. Our favourites were the 'Secret Garden', 'Lemon Tree' and the 'Help Bar' and 'Bella Gusto, both of which are on the sea front.
I read some of these reviews before we booked and really couldn't understand why some people spoke so badly when others spoke so highly, but it seems there are 3 'Karbels', The Karbel of which we speak, the 'Karbel Sun' and the 'Karbel Beach'.
The room was basic, but clean and for the amount of time we spent in it, it really didn't matter that it was on the small side. I can truly say we will be recommending it to family and friends and will hopefully be back there ourselves.
Olu Deniz is Beautiful

Myself, My fiance and our friends have just returned from Olu Deniz, We spent two weeks there and throughly enjoyed it. The hotel was extremly clean and the maids were in daily to change sheets & towels. They also left lots of lovely flowers scattered over our bed and arranged the towels in heart shapes. The pool was very clean and plenty of sunbeds to go around throughout the whole day. All the hotel staff were great, very helpful and spoke english very well.
I was also brave enough to try the Paragliding with "Sky Sports" and absolutly loved it. It cost around £90 for the jump from 9000ft plus a dvd of the experience.
The four of us hired a speed boat costing £60 from 10am-4pm. well worth the money as it was just us on there and got to drive it and had a bit of fun.
Our favourite bar overall was Buzz Bar (very yummy cocktails) and good range of music.
Would revisit again..............
One of the best in Turkey

Had two really good weeks at the Karbel, couldn't fault the rooms or room service. The hotel restaurant was only average but there are so many restaurants in Olu Deniz just a short walk away it didn't matter. Breakfast was good but "Extras" were overpriced.
Pool was excellent so were the staff and bar staff. Our only dislike was the "Hotel credit card" which was used to pay for everything, a big balance builds up quickly if you don't keep an eye on it. Drinks are much cheaper outside the hotel.
We can really recommend the Ottaman and particularly the "Buzz beach bar" superb food and staff.
Try parasailing if you dare it's out of this world
Overall we would definately go back to the Karbel.

Don't die before visiting Turkey.

Hallo Michelle :)
Marmaris is very busy and full of British tourists - you will find practically everyone speaks good English, and many of the cafes, restaurants etc cater to British tastes.
Turkish men are very courteous and friendly, in my experience, and in places like Marmaris, very used to tourists. I have been to different parts of Turkey and only once have I been spoken to disrespectfully by a man (in the market in Içmeler). I think if one dresses and behaves appropriately, then there generally isn't a problem.
I would suggest you learn a little basic Turkish before you go - so many people don't bother, but it's really worth the effort, and once you get there, lots of Turkish people you meet will be very happy to teach you some more :)
Here are a few basics to get you started:
Merhaba - Hallo
Nasılsın? - How are you? (ı = sound in "it")
İyiyim - I'm well (i = "ee" sound)
Teşekkürler - Thanks (ş = "sh" sound, ü = "oo")
Lütfen - Please
Görüşürüz! - See you later! (ger-oo-shoo-rooz)
Tanıştığımıza memnun oldum - Nice to meet you (tanish-ti-hi-miza)(i as in "it")
Anlamadım - I don't understand
Hope this is some help to you :)

unfortunately the tourist women meet uneducated but good looking Turks like waiters, barbers, shop keepers, rug sellers in daily life. It is hard to reach to educated Turks.

Hi,
Men are lovely in Marmaris but as anywhere else you have to watch out for those tall dark and handsome charmers. They are everywhere. Why don't you take a girlfriend with you? X

Use your head not your heart, its unfortunate but true...most of the guys in the tourist resorts are only after one of 3 things, sex, money or a visa.If you want a holiday fling go for it but dont believe any promises...I speak from experience!! lol
