ICE CREAM. THE TURKISH WAY
by whitecliff62
You will find loads of local ice cream sellers dotted around Marmaris but this one is the most famous. This is one ice cream you won't forget in a hurry. The 2 men in the photo are a right laugh, they should have been on the stage performing, rather than selling ice cream. Every min or so when your least expecting it one of them wacks this cowbell with a stick and shouts ICE CREAM at the top of his voice, this either gives you a heart attack or scares the living sh#t out of you Hahahaha. When you pluck up enough courage to actually buy one of ther icecreams one of the lads puts the cone in a ring on the end of a stick and offers it to you, this is when he starts doing his tricks, basically you can't get hold of the bloody thing hahaha. This is one of the funniest things i have ever seen, and it certainly draws the crowds in. The ice cream's not bad either hahahaha.
WHERE THE LOCALS EAT
by whitecliff62 about SOFRA RESTAURANT
The main reason this place is so special is the fact that it is a genuine local restaurant selling genuine local dishes. Its the sort of place where the tourists eat with the local people and if the locals eat there then it must be good My favorite dish was the Istanbul kebap, thats a lamb stew with rice and beans all served with local crusty bread Mmmmmm.
Fisherman at Byzantine cove in late afternoon
by JLBG
Byzntine cove is uninhabited but while we had just finished dinner, we saw that there was someone standing in a small local boat that was moored along the coast (first photo). We had neither seen nor heard him arriving.
The second photo shows the fisherman that seems to bail out his boat. Later, he left for fishing and came back later at night but we only saw the boat next morning. I suppose his home was somewhere, hidden in the olive groves.
A little further, a large excursion boat arrived late in the afternoon and was moored among our party (third photo).
