currency again!!

by caroline1907

hi

i am bringing bank of england ten pound notes over to turkey and plan to exchange it as i need it in a bureau de change over there. im from ireland an have been told that turkey only accepts bank of england TEN pound notes and not twentys!! as tens are so hard to get hold of im wondering if this is true?!

I heard funny stories a while back about this. Even that you had to hand the customs bloke a tenner on your way-in! (Not two fives - a TEN)
So - Best be safe and do as you thought.

That is absolutely correct regarding the ten pound note instead of 2 fives. I tried to pay for my visa with 2 fives but they would not accept - luckily i had some tens with me. Therefore it would not surprise me about not accepting twentys.

The 10 pounds only concerns the visa office, they won't give change, otherwise bring 20's or Euros, you won't have any problems changing them.

Tell you what - why dont the UK charge all incoming non-residents a tenner? That way, maybe they can afford to drop the fuel duty a bit!
Reckon that will get past the EEC human rights lobby?
No chance!

Actually the UK (and Schengen Europe) do charge an entry fee for most non-EU nationals (Turks included) - it's called visa fee and is currently at 175 YTL (~ 74 GBP), which is quite a bit more than the tenner the Turks charge !

Great idea George. Fuel prices are getting stupid.

I feel so much better knowing that!

What funny urban legends get around about travelling!
The £10 at the visa desk is correct. It must be a correct note or combination in the case of countries that have to pay 15 euro.
The idea that the Turks will not change other UK currency is not. Twentys and even fiftys are changed as well as tens (I would take £50's into the bank though!). I have never tried to exchange a £5 so cannot vouch for that one :o)

Travel Tips for Marmaris

Barbeque time!!! Selami captain was on the job.

by beatle74

Our captain was really a good man. He tried to make us happy all the time. For example a friend of mine turned out to be real crazy about fishing. That's why Selami captain tried to find good bays for him. At the end he helped him and they could feed us one night :)...BTW it was delicous.

Mr. Zek - Spectacular views, good music & food !

by Innovator about Mr. Zek

When you enter the harbour you are hassled as usual by many restaurant keepers. Just go to the end of the first street, and on the left corner you find Mr. Zek.

You can just drink something, or eat delicious meals. It's a relaxing atmosphere, romantic, with lounge music, the best views, not expensive, friendly waiters, close to Marmaris castle. Calmares (filled with mushrooms & cheese).
Mexican steak.... lots of choice. Also typical Turkish food and international menus.

Castabus (Pazarlik)

by traveloturc

This holy place close to Hisarlik Village can be reached by an hours climb from the Hisarönü plain. Today, only the platform and the dazzling walls supporting the platform are left from the Ion style temple of 4th century BC. Together with the temple, the ruined theatre located in the south of the area, is the only building in the region that can be recognized.
