Hi I am a South African Passport holder going to Turkey in July. Want to take the ferry to Rhodes for the day and want to know if I need a visa????
If I need to get a schengen how do I do this if I am not actually staying in Greece?

Yes, you do need a Schengen visa, even if you are just visiting for one day.
How can go do this : the answer is probably not at all. In theory you could try and apply at the Greek embassy for a one day visa, showing your ferry tickets as proof of planned departure, but IMO they probably won't acept that as sufficient. But if you can spare the visa applycation fee, there is no harm in trying.
For Turkish citizens you do not need a visa for short trips to some Greece islands, i don't know if it applies to Rhodes or not.
If you have diplomatic passport you do not need visa.
When you book a day trip on a boat from one of the hundreds of travel agents in Marmaris this is where you probebly be taken to catch your boat, as you can see, all of the boats have a top deck for sunbathing and a lower deck which is nice and shadey, if you decide to try a boat trip in july or august my advice would be to grab a seat on the lower deck coz its damn hot up there and theres no shade at all.
sandras kitchen with kasas restaurant is the best restaurant in mrmaris bar non,the people are gr8 and the food is lovely,the do all sorts of foods which vary from turkish/anglish/italian whatever you want. if you want the best service wit a great atmosphere go there.it is about 100 meters from the beach opposite mcdonalds.once youv been youl keep on going. braised steak!!!!!!!! i love it.but all the food they do lasagne,sunday roast,etc are delicious, trust me the foods great whatever you get.
I have given on my Marmaris front page a map that shows where is Byzantine cove. It is 7 nautic miles southwest to Marmaris, as the crow flies. This map is a close up on Byzantine cove, a very deep inlet open eastwards, a direction with few main winds. This is why it is an excellent shelter.
