Best way to reach Marmaris

by nitinpandey

Hi,
My wife and I'd be flying into Turkey in June this year and we would like to go to Marmaris. Is it better to fly into Ankara or Istanbul? From there how does one reach Marmaris? We would rather not take long road journeys.
Many thanks in advance,
Regards,
Nitin

Hi,

Best way to reach Marmaris is flying of course. You can find flights from both, Istanbul and Ankara to Dalaman airport. And there are "Havas" shuttle services to Marmaris from the airport. ( http://www.havas.com.tr/en/otobus_dalaman.asp )

Hi Nitin, if You fly into Istanbul or Ankara, Your options are a long coach ride to Marmaris, or a flight to Dalaman, then a 2hour+ coach ride over the mountains to Marmaris.Another possible option is flying to Rhodes (Greece) then ferry to Marmaris - but check out the latest rules for travelling and staying in Turkey from Greece and vise versa.

Just curious - Why do You want to go to Marmaris in particular?

Best Wishes,
Sue

bets to fly to dalaman if you can . There are several flights from Istanbul to dalaman if Istanbul is your only entry point. A transfer to Marmaris is about 100 ytl. Maybe cheaper to rent a car ... more info here www.marmarisyellowpages.com/carhire.asp

the journey from dalaman airport can be a nightmare, i speak from experience. twice we have had the coach driver go to sleep at the wheel. i know it is expensive, but use taxis or minibus, and share the cost.

Travel Tips for Marmaris

Try a NARGILE (waterpipe) once in your life!

by WanderingFinn

I don't know if this is undiscovered any more, but most probably many travelers don't pay attention to this phenomenon. Many might even be afraid of it, namely the waterpipe (nargile). I can tell that no reason to be afraid of; I've tried it a couple of times.

First of all; there are no drugs, no alcohol, nothing extra in it. It is very mild, and in the majority of the places one can even choose the flavour. I have never smoked (only tried) and to me it was milder than tobacco. Using/smoking it does not make any change in you; no-one gets drunk, drugged or anything else. It is totally safe.

Almost in every place, also small places, there are waterpipes. It is the habit of many muslim countries. If there are no pipes visible, then just ask. It costs something of course, but it is not expensive at all.

Do not wonder how to use it; locals are very nice and helpful. They come and put the fire on it, they prepare it until it is ready to "smoke". It keeps a funny sound (water bubbles).

as you walk past they will try to drag you in, well dont just walk past try it or you will regret it. we went their nearly every night for a meal and sometimes for breakfast the first time we went to turkey and it was brilliant. the food is lush, waitors are nice and they sometimes have entertainment. my favourite dish was the steak and kidney pie, i dont normally like it but this one i did.

Daily Boat tours

by traveloturc

Big or small, hundreds of boats depart from the main dock in the shopping area and at different points in Marmaris.(included Knidos and Palamut on the west ) They organize daily tours to the islands and bays nearby. The Paradise Island (Nimara) opposite to Marmaris, Turunç, Kumlubük, Çiftlik, and Phosphorus Cave are the most popular destinations for daily tours. Some of the tours go over to Dalyan Iztuzu shore. These tours offer entertainment, drinks and the pleasure of swimming at night. Its a good idea to try it )))
