If you want to shop for local products like home, we saw at 0:30 past midnight lots of Turks with caddies shopping, like here at 12 noon :) In our city supermarkets are closed at 20hrs. The shops of Marmaris, the sparkling hot city, are open after midnight! nice.. Local products
Marmaris originally called Physkos and part of Caria one of the old Aegean Kingdoms.Its name is claimed to have come from Mamalos where the Carians lived under Lydian rule in the 6th century B.C.It first becomes well known in the 4th century as part of the Rhodian Empire formed in 408 B.C. by Lindos,Lalysos and Kamiros.In 334 B.C. Alexander the Great conquered Marmaris.Then in 163 B.C. it and the surrounding area came under Roman control,then Byzantine.
Marmaris castle was rebuilt during Suleman the Greats journey to conquer Rhodes.
Very little survives today,the old acropolis stood on the present Asar Tepe a km and a half from the harbour but only a few walls remain with almost nothing inside.
