May in Marmaris is beautiful - we go every May and the temperatures can reach 28 - 30 degrees during the day, but take a cardigan for the evenings just in case it gets chilly (never has while we have been there)

Travel Tips for Marmaris

daytrip to RHODES

by mindcrime

It's not so off the beaten path but you will need a day away for this one.
If you are tired of Marmaris you can do a nice daytrip to Rhodes island (Greece). The boat departs early in the morning, around 8 o’clock and the trip lasts only 1h. The cost is around 70 euros for a return ticket. The return time is at 17:00 I think you will have plenty of time to explore the island. Of course, Rhodes is a big island so you have to choose some things to do than running around to catch everything:

better stroll around the Old Rhodes town, see the Palace of the Grand Master, walk to Ipoton Street, or visit Lindos Town and the Acropolis of Lindos.

Pamukkale is quite a trek from Marmaris, about 4 hours by coach but well worth the effort to get there. You'll see Pamukkale in the distance,a tall chalky outcrop rising high above the surrounding plain. The source of this strange beauty is a spring that burbles up from the top of the plateau, putting out a stream of warm, calcium-rich water that, as it dribbles over the side and cools, turns in to hard white chalk called Travertine. This has been occuring for thousands of years creating a unique landscape that is found nowhere else on earth. But i urge you not to go in july or august, we went with the children and the heat was unbeleivable. Also this was the second time i had visited pamukkale, the first time it was all that everybody had told me it was going to be, but the second time i went i was horrified to see that the millky white pools of water had almost dried up and everything was a horrible green colour, this was because a certain hotel was diverting the water to the hotel. I will add that this was a few years ago and i really hope that this problem has been solved because its only the water that makes pamukkale the way it is.
