Dalaman Airport
by thehobbit_uk
Hello. I am joining a cruise ship in Marmaris and flying into/out of Dalaman airport. I have read various reviews online about the airport saying the food and drink are pricey and departure times are often delayed. The advice seems to be to take your own food and drink with you. Reviewers have been inconsistent about whether you can take water (or other drinks) through passport control/customs though. Some say it's OK up to passport control (which is what I would have thought) whereas others say it's fine to take it through passport control as there is no 100ml fluid limit. I would be surprised if the 100ml limit isn't enforced but know VT reviewers will be able to give a definitive response - if there is one. So, can you take water through customs and, if so, is it just water (or could you take Coca Cola for example)? Do the bottles have to still be sealed and is there a maximum size you can take through? Thank you for any help anyone can give.

It's been a few years since I flew into/out of Dalaman, but I don't remember there being any problems with getting food/drink at the airport nor was my flight delayed. It's used by lots of UK package hol flights now, as well as budget airlines, so I really can't see that delays would be frequent....although I do remember the plane (a big one) had to do a very sharp right-hand bank to land, so perhaps weather conditions can affect take-off?
As for the food/drink, both have been pricey at every single airport I've used anywhere, including the UK...that's par for the course. But I've never found prices to be out of my range, so I don't see the point of risking potential hassle and trying to take your own water etc through security (I too would be surprised if the fluid limits weren't enforced, especially given that Turkey wishes to enter the EU).
If you're really worried about cost, why not eat and drink before you get to the airport, or buy some snacks to take with you, and just buy a bottle of water or coffee once you're past security?

Hi.
Officially restriction on liquid is in application in Turkey since september 2009 but on domestic flight most of the time they don't care. Exception maybe for Antalya airport.

I have already replied to this question in another posting. However, I will add that I remember there are water coolers in the departure lounge, so you would at least be able to have a sip.

Thank you to everyone for your replies. Having now been through Dalaman airport I can report that food and drink is pricey. At East Midlands airport (UK) I paid £1.69 for half a litre of Coca Cola. The same thing at Dalaman worked out at £5. Half a litre of water was approx £2.50, beer £7.50 and a McDonalds happy meal approx £11. However, there were no delays so we weren't waiting there for very long. I didn't see any water coolers in the departure area though. Thanks again everyone for your help.

Glad it worked out okay. Guess the water coolers must have fallen prey to gouging the captive audience for drinks!! I think £1.69 for half a liter is more than enough......

Airports prices are always hiked massively. Have been everywhere I've travelled.....
Re: Dalaman Airport

But £1.69 is a real bargain when compared with the Dalaman prices - who said 'rip off Britain"??!!

Marmaris Tourism Center
İskele Meydanı (Ferry Jetty Square)
Marmaris, Muga
Turkey
Hours: Mon–Fri 8.30am–7pm; summer open Sat & Sun
Located right near the docks, the tourist center is sure to help you with all your needs. Unfortunately they do not appear to have a website. Three very comprehensive websites, albeit unofficial, however, MarmarisTown(http://www.marmaristown.com) ; AboutMarmaris(http://www.aboutmarmaris.com/) and MarmarisInfo (http://www.marmarisinfo.com/)
Have a nice trip
Pick a Dolmus bus 1.250.000 TLR (0,75 euros)
by Innovator
Very easy to use these busses.
Cheap (€0,6) and easy to recognise (orange busses go from Marmaris to Içmeler, green dolmus bus goes from Içmeler to Marmaris).
The bus station is near the big Maxi Tansas shop in the centre (near Burger King).
Eat at one of the many restaurnts
by sjvessey
To be fair, the food we ate was excellent. There are many restaurants here, all very reasonably priced for the northern European wallet, offering a wide variety of both local and more international cuisine. Service is good, everyone speaks English and you will have no problems finding something to satisfy. The one downside is, again, the habit of the proprietors to chase you down the street trying to entice into their restaurant. Really, they need to learn to leave people alone, or at least take "no" for an answer.
