Lured by gushy prose in travel books, we booked a room at the Goreme House Hotel in May of 2009. The room turned out to be the smallest we have ever had. No room even for a chair. It was also dark and moldy. Staff were largely uncooperative and even surly. Our room faced the courtyard where patrons and the owner talked loudly and without consideration for other guests. Much was made in the advertisements about olive soap. We had one small bar for both the shower and the sink.
The breakfast was great, but that is the best I can say about this place. I would not recommend it to others.

Goreme House has been praised for raising the standard of service in Goreme's burgeoning tourist accommodation industry. I'm glad to report that I could vouch for these positive feedback. The place is oozing with charm and comfort - good sized double bed (for their single rooms), clean warm blankets, relaxing ambiance and friendly, helpful staff.
What makes the place more special are the little extras that make the stay more memorable - scented candles (with matches, of course), complimentary water and tea/coffee making facilities, and olive oil soaps.
If you are staying for at least four nights, they offer free transfers from Kayseri airport on the Argeus shuttle service.
I have only issue, though - I missed breakfast the day I had to leave early for the airport because the staff were still asleep at 7 am. But that's ok - that won't put me off from staying again here should I find myself coming back to Goreme.

After a bad experience in Istanbul, we were so happy about our stay at Goreme House. Reasonably priced at approx $35 USD includes breakfast. The staff is amazing and very personable, ready to make sure you are taken care of and giving insight on Turkish people and culture. I read in a travel guide that you will spend more time with the staff than sightseeing and it may possibly be true...
As you would expect, this relatively new place is in Goreme, the heart of Cappadocia. It was clean, neat and had a nice overview of Goreme from the restaurant where I ate each morning. It's situated right next to some of the tufa peaks, some of which are still in use for storage and one for living in, still.
