Kayseri Airport - Goreme Transfer

by emush

Hi folks,

I will be taking a flight from Istanbul late at night, arriving at Kayseri airport at about 9pm. I was wondering about how easily I will be able to find an airport transfer / taxi / dolmus that late at night onward to Goreme, which is where we will be staying.

Also prices etc would be much appreciated.

Any advice? Thanks muchly.

Can't help with your plans, but we will be in Goreme from the 29th September for 4 nights.

Will you be there at that time?

If you let your hotel&pension know about your landing time I am sure they will provide a shuttle for you. Most of the flights have shuttle connection to Cappadocia. It only costs around 12-15 YTL (10 USD).

you should certainly organise a transfer as public transport to and from kayseri airport is not very good and a taxi will cost you a lot of money.

There is a tour agency in Urgup who handle the Turkish Airlines shuttelbus and non Turkish Airlines passengers can ride for a fee
Email the address below and he will be able to help( but do check if your hotel does a pickup)

Travel Tips for Goreme

When arriving at Kayseri, one of the sights you will witness first is Mount Erciye, which has an elevation of
3917 metres. This mountain is the fifth highest Mountain of Turkey. It is thought that the name of Mount Erciyes was derived from the greek word “Erkiyos” meaning white.

If the weather is clear, there is a stunning view of an area stretching from Cappadocia to the Taurus mountains from the top of the Mount Erciyes . There is a mountain glacier on the top of the mountain.

Certain sport activities can be performed on the Mount Erciyes which is an inactive volcano. It's one of the favourite places of those who like mountaineering and is an important mountaineering center with its high but smooth routes.
Also there is a winter sports center on the mountain so you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Accomodation is also available at the mountain with a heated 100 bed mountain resort on the Tekir plateau. There are several accomodation facilities.

From the nearest airport (Kayseri-Erkilet) to the ski facilities it takes forty minutes by bus and from the city center thirty minutes. The ski facilities can be reached by means of private transportation from Kayseri center as well. Besides, many hotels organize shuttle services for their customers.

It has snow on it all year round, and it was a beautiful sight to see from the Airplane window, or from the ground.

A child or children watching their Sheep, suddenly notice Tourists, just watch. .........
As quick as a flash, a dash is made for the Donkey, and in no time he is there beside you! Nothing was said, but they want to take you for a Donkey ride for 1-2 t/l
My guide told me this. Unluckily for them, we were on tour and couldn't do it.
I hate the look of disappointment on the children's faces, I only hope that they would get some business later on!

Out of this world hike

I am surprised no one has mentioned hiking the Red and Rose valleys. Have a cabbie drop you off near Urgup and hike to the town of Cavusin. You can hire a guide if you want but we did it on our own....its not that hard to find your way..just ask the locals..make sure you don;t miss the right turn into rose valley..it is a beautiful site when you climb to the top

Churches in Ihlara Valley

by MalenaN

In many of the churches of Ihlara Valley there are well preserved old frescos, some dating from the 10th and 13th century.
The fresco in the picture is from the first church you come to when you walk down the steps from the resthouse, close to Ihlara Village.

Cave restaurant

by albaaust about Uranos Sarikaya

Mustafa took us to this cave restaurant for lunch. It is obviously a place that many tour guides take their clients. You get served a three course meal and listen to various live Turkish music. It was OK.
