Travel Tips for Urgup
Hospitality
by ozalp
I experienced that tourism income spoil the people all the time. I witnessed this in many places in my country. And Cappadocia is one of the most important and famous tourist attractions in Turkey for years. So I never expected to have a warm relationship with locals. But I’ve all wrong! The people we’ve met in the area were so kind. Everybody helped us, invited us for a drink, and gave us recommendations without any expectations.
I never forget the people of the region, old ladies who said “You can take if you aren’t journalist.” when we were taking their photos, young girl selling dolls in Soganlý valley, helpful and kind employees, nice shop owners and their smiling faces.
Temenni Tepesi - Hill of Wishes
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
The town lies at an average elevation of more than 1000 m. Ürgüp situated on the outskirts of the hill named as Hill of Wishes.
Ürgüp has a "Wishpoint" for those who require lasting benefits from their holiday. The route to the wishpoint is interesting in itself as it starts opposite the 13th century Kebir Camii (mosque) then follows a long tunnel to the top of Temenni.

Tokali Kilise

This church’s entrance is just a few meters away from Goreme Open Air Museum’s entrance. But you can visit both of them with the same ticket. Just don’t throw it after you enter the Open Air Museum.
The frescoes have a strange blue in this church. It was amazing the brightness of this color. It fills every single part between figures. I’ve never see this kind of blue in any church of Cappadocia.
This is the biggest of the known churches of Cappadocia. It has four different parts: Old church, new church, an underground church and a chapel. You can reach the underground church from the stairs on the left when you enter the church.
Try to make a pot in Avanos
by ozalp
You must have seen a picture of this event: A tourist trying to make a pot from mud in Cappadocia. It is a very common thing. When you enter a shop, they invite you to watch or participate the making of pottery in traditional way. The experienced potters give a form to mud easily but tourists generally fail to do it. Also they have to get rid of the mud.
If you don’t come across anybody working with mud, you can ask the shop owners. They love doing the show.
Capadoccia
by buraque
Cappadocia is one of the most important tourist centers in Turkey, with its extraordinary chimney-like rock formations.and sculpted out breathtking valleys. The valley of Goreme is perhaps the most attractive in Cappadocia, many people still live in rock houses. Here you can see its rock churches decorated with Christian frescoes dating from the 6th to the 10th century. Then you may visit the Byzantine monastic complex of Zelve and the village of Avanos, which is famous for traditional pottery.
You can visit one of the many underground cities of the region, Kaymakli or Derinkuyu where the early Christians sought sanctuaray to escape persecution. You will gradually stroll your way down into the depths of the earth in this ancient underground city that has 18-20 floors as deep as 40 meters below the ground. You will see ancient kitchens and stables and deep wells for water supplies, These cities were fortified and prepared for it's inhabitants to hide out for months from attackers, especially during the Arab invasions.
