Climate
by amna24
Abu-Dhabi has a sub-tropical, arid climate with mostly sunny blue skies. Rainfall is infrequent and irregular, falling mainly in winter, from November to March (12cm per year). Temperatures range from a low of around 10 C (50 F), to a high of around 48 C (118 F) in the summer. The most pleasant time to visit is in the cooler winter months when temperatures are around 24C (75 F) during the day and 13 C (56 F) at night.
The prevailing winds are from the north-west and are called "Shamal" and they often bring sandstorms particularly in winter. More surprisingly is the fog in the winter mornings that can make driving a hazard but that disappears with the morning sun. In the summer, humidity can be killer - approaching 100%! As in any place with plenty of sun, good quality sunglasses, hats and sunscreen are essential and so are drinking plenty of fluids (at least 1 1/2 litres of water/day), don't rely on feeling thirsty!.

Seafood Salad Rules!
by tashka about Moka Cafe
For me it was the best place to dine in Abu Dhabi. Prices are reasonable, food is great. You can select a sea view seat or sit at the door to the mall and watch people shopping - I found it very interesting. Seafood salad. I still miss it. Never had such a good seafood salad anywhere else in the world. Warm pasta with seafood and cream sauce. Portions are quite large. We usually had one portion of the salad for the two of us.

by amna24 about AMALFI Abu Dhabi
Amalfi, the town, is situated where you’d imagine the laces to be on Italy’s riding boot-shaped coastline. It’s surrounded by vast cliffs, watercolour scenery, and is registered as a World Heritage Site. It’s puzzling then, that Amalfi, one of the ground-floor restaurants at Le Royal Meridien, has ignored everything its namesake stands for and instead overlooks a swimming pool and is made up of rather bland straight lines.
The light does it no favours at lunchtime, with the white walls reflecting onto cutlery and balding men, yet in the evening it threatens to be romantic and, if you keep your expectations on the liberal side, it isn’t a bad place to dine.
The food has a lot of making up to do for its location, and seeing the likes of prawn cocktail and Parma ham and melon on the menu – the most common dishes imaginable from a 1980s dinner party – it seemed Amalfi’s food wasn’t going to reflect its authentic namesake a few thousand miles away in Europe. The high prices are far from justified, though. The food needs an edge to make Amalfi live up to its name.
