Travel to any of the UAE countries...

by el_ben

I am a Canadian citizen born in Israel. While I do have a Canadian passport, the birthplace is listed as Jerusalem. Does anyone know if this will prevent me from being able to travel to any UAE countries?

I know for a fact that Israeli citizens traveling on non-Israeli passports do indeed enter the UAE. I don't know whether their non-Israeli passports are issued in Tel Aviv or not. Also, I don't know if their place of birth is listed therein as Jerusalem or Israel. My personal subjective impression, from what I've heard: UAE officials couldn't care less, as long as you aren't traveling on an Israeli passport.
My advice: Ask the nearest UAE diplomatic mission or just buy a flight ticket and chance it. :) The worst they can do is not let you in.

Thanks for the reply. My big concern though are the implications post February 2010 (Hamas leader assassination by Mossad). Some of the UAE countries have stated that anyone having Israeli citizenship (including dual citizens) would no longer be allowed in the country. Any idea how enforced this is?

I agree, the safest option is to check it with the nearest UAE embassy in your area!!

I heard of that too. However, I also heard that "discreet" business ties (between local Israeli and UAE businessmen) is stronger than political dogma. :) As I've said, there is no *objective* reason for the UAE to change its policy after the assassination and IMHO the announcement of the "new policy" is just for show. That said, I have no empirical evidence or information of what is actually happening lately (as opposed to the pre-assassination period).

Please note that there is no such thing as "UAE countries".

The UAE is the United Arab Emirates and this is one country. Within that country there are 7 emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well (Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE).
Just wanted to clarify this.

Travel Tips for Abu Dhabi

Useful Tips

by amna24

Arabs are very hospitable so accept any invitations you receive.
It is good manners to remove your shoes before entering a UAE national’s house.
Leave X-rated books and DVDs behind. They are not allowed in the UAE.
Take photos of your visit to the UAE , but ask permission first. Most locals will be happy to oblige, but they may be sensitive to having their picture taken, especially women.
If you are a man, don’t offer your hand to an Emirati woman. It is considered impolite. Some Arab men will shake Western women’s hands, but don’t be offended if they don’t.
The UAE is a Muslim country, so don’t engage in public displays of affection. Anything more than a kiss on the cheek in public is frowned upon.
Don’t expect taxi drivers to carry change. Many struggle to provide change for any note greater than AED 100, so have smaller notes and coins ready.

Jebel Hafeet

by paragianna75

Jebel Hafeet is the physical border between UAE and Oman. This mountain lies in Al Ain area and rises 1240m.Take the way up to the mountain till the end where you will find a parking lot. From there the view is amazing! If the weather is clear you can see all the desert on your feet :)
I was unlucky cause I went there after a sand stormy day but in anyway I really enjoyed the view and I noticed also the egyptian vultures that are flying often in that area!

Car Hire

by amna24

Hiring a car is a great way to tour the emirate. Visitors from certain countries can do so if they hold an international driving licence, while others may have to apply for a temporary UAE licence. The major car hire firms are well represented in the cities and at the airports and may be contacted via the hotels.

Coffee at Gloria

by AbuDhabi about Gloria Jean's Coffee

This is my favorite coffee house in town. The service is excellent, and the coffee is superior. I like their setup and location in the Marina Mall. In the peek times you still find the staff smiling and greeting you nicely.
