More about Intercontinental Resort Al Ain

United Arab Emirates

"My new home....for now"

I am writing this very late after the fact, but it is worth mentioning. I arrived in the United Arab Emirates on September 1st, 2001, the heat burning my eyes as the doors swung open at the airport in Dubai. Öh my god"! What have I done? Was my first reaction! There in front of me was a 6foot Pakistani gentleman holding a sign of the InterContinental Al Ain and I had finally found someone to grab on too! ....and so my UAE journey begins!

Travel Tips for Abu Dhabi

conservative clothes show respect

by tglenn57

sandals, light runners, sun hat, sunglasses sunscreen and a lot of it bright sun every day-lots of glare yes, you can camp with your own tent or you can go on a "safari"with a group and the tour company will put you up in a bedouin tent .
there are only a couple of beaches left that are free. women get stared at alot here,no doubt about it. you can wear a bikini but be prepared for drooling men around you. option2 is to go to a hotel where there are mostly tourists- there will be a charge though to get in unless you are staying at that hotel. this is a moslem country so as a visitor please be respectful of the local people's culture and dress appropriately. for women -cover your upper arms at least, loose clothing, not revealing or form-fitting while shopping or sightseeing. no shorts or tank tops. this goes for men too. (at your hotel swimming pool or at the beach it's ok, though).

Cheaper Cabs

by keri3105

When travelling around Abu Dhabi I tend to walk the streets to catch a cab, (Grab the Gold and white cabs).
Try to avoid Gazzelle cabs as these are far more expensive then the ones that you pick up on the streets and seem to be available outside all the hotels. Further more the higher the star your hotel the more expensive your fare will be. This advise was given to me by a local.

Trendy Italian

by MM212 about BiCe

Related to other Bice Restaurants in the US, this Abu Dhabi counterpart has become a very trendy hangout and dinner spot. The restaurant is located at the Hilton Hotel in the Khalidiya area on the Corniche and it comes with a nice bar and lounge, and a nice dining room. The Italian food is excellent, accompanied by a good Italian wine list.
