A quiet oasis in the desert!
The Liwa Hotel, Abu Dhabi is in the Rub Al Khali Desert, about 220 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city centre, and 360 kilometres from Dubai. It is located in a peaceful and private desert setting with great views of the dunes nearby. The hotel is Arabic in style and has an official 4 star rating (I would give it a 3 at most!).
We were there on a weekend break from Dubai and the hotel was very quiet indeed. Rooms were large and quite modern and clean and ours had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The pool area was spacious and well maintained and there was a pool "bar" serving soft drinks and water (alcohol ceased to be served at the hotel a few weeks before our visit). There were ample sun loungers for the number of guests there.
Inside the hotel there was a small gym, sauna and steam room and the lobby restaurant served breakfast, lunch and dinner. We only had dinner while we were there, which was tasty and reasonably priced. The menu was quite varied. There was free WIFI internet available at no extra charge. There were outdoor tennis courts too.
Rates for the hotel were quite high I found, for the standard of the accommodation. We paid AED696 (inclusive of 16% tax) for a standard double room through www.booking.com.

Liwa Resort Abu Dhabi
I stayed at the Liwa Hotel for 2 nights. Thursday and Friday the weekend here in Abu Dhabi. This is a nice, older hotel. Designed like a fort. It has a lovely pool area, and a spectacular sunset viewing area. Tennis courts, volleyball nets, or badmitton courts, very nice grounds. Surrounded by huge sand dunes.
The room was large, very high ceilings, had a mini fridge, empty though? Very clean, and a lovely outside porch, deck, sitting area that we took our meals on.
The rate is 638 dirhams per night. For room only. Close by to Moreeb Dunes. Which are spectacular. All in all a nice weekend getaway. There was not very many people there on Thursday, but Friday, the place was full. There is a small bar tucked away on the second floor, with a pool table.
