Rocco Forte has arrived in Abu Dhabi

    by

One of Abu Dhabi's newest hotels (and there are many), the Rocco Forte Hotel is housed in a sleek new glass structure built purposefully for the hotel. As expected, the interior is stunningly beautiful with modern Italian touches. I did not stay at this hotel, but visited it in Feb 2013 when I ate at its delicious Oro Restaurant. I would love to stay here on a future trip to Abu Dhabi. One small disadvantage, though, is that it is located about 15 minutes south of the business centre of Abu Dhabi.

Can AirAsia X passengers board the Etihad Bus at Abu Dhabi International Airport to Dubai?

by Chyan

I am planning a trip to Dubai via Kuala Lumpur and Abu Dhabi International Airport with AirAsia X. AirAsia X recommends taxi connection but the price of travel by taxi to Dubai is 250 Dirhams which is about 100 Singapore Dollars. Can AirAsia X passengers instead pay to board the Etihad bus for travel to Dubai? If yes, how much is the fare to board the Etihad bus?

In case you will not find the Etihad bus, you could go to bus city terminal with bus (901?) at 3AED then take a bus to Dubai. for less rhe 25AED you could take the luxury one.

So you go back to Dubai, you must be an expert there :)

The RTA buses do not operate 24 hours. So can't do anything between 1.30 am and 5.55 am Abu Dhabi time. Anyway i have cancelled my plan to re-visit Dubai via Abu Dhabi. The remaining airlines like Jubba Airways and Iraqi Airways do not have inflight magazines in their offices for collection. It's a waste of time and money if i go again. Thanks for the travel tips.

i am planning to buy AirAsia X ticket to Abu Dhabi. The plane lands in Abu Dhabi at 1.30 am. So is there any bus from the airport to Abu Dhabi Bus Station during that time?

Again, I think it has already been stated but your best bet, and I speak from experience is to take the 901 from AD airport to the main bus station. Yes, you will have to wait until about 0600am for the first bus to Dubai to roll out. That's the price you pay for the cheap Airasia ticket. Airasia pays a cheaper gate fee to the airport authority for coming in at non-peak hours. Otherwise, you will have to pay a premium fee to Dubai via taxi especially at that time of the morning.

i found out there are hourly microbus or van services after midnight to Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai from Abu Dhabi Al Wahdah Bus Station. I reached Dubai by 6.30 am.

Travel Tips for Abu Dhabi

Dress code

by amna24

Abu Dhabi is generally conservative, but tolerant when it comes to dress code. Residents and visitors are advised to respect local culture and customs by not wearing revealing clothing in public places. It is respectful for men and women to cover shoulders and knees when in public.

For visitors to the country, lightweight summer clothing is suitable for most of the year, but something slightly warmer may be needed for the winter months. Be sure to take some sort of jacket or sweater when visiting hotels, offices or the cinemas, as the air conditioning can be pretty fierce. Although throughout the emirates the attitude is fairly liberal, in Abu Dhabi it is rather more conservative than in neighbouring Dubai. As in all countries, a healthy amount of respect for the local customs doesn't go amiss, especially when shopping or generally sightseeing. Short or tight clothing may be worn, but it will attract attention - most of it unwelcome. For ladies it is advisable to wear short sleeved rather than sleeveless tops and dresses, especially if travelling by local taxi on your own (shawls and wraps are often worn over evening dresses etc).

Trip to the Golden Islands of Abu Dhabi

by Emir4u

There are a lot of Islands in Abu Dhabi that you can visit. Some by road other by locally built Dhows crossing the sea. On these Islands you can relax and be away from the hustle and bustle f the city. You can witness unbeleivable greenery on these islands and see a lot of flora and fauna.
Some islands have 5 , 4, & 3 star hotels.

You can also do your part for the environment and plant a tree in your name or in the name of your companion. Watch animals like oryxes and gazelles running around.

Drive a car

by zuyao

Bus transportation is better than useless. Taxi is convenient too. But driving around is the best. Signboards are in English and aplenty. Abu Dhabi is not as congested a Dubai and parking is mostly free. The standards of road and drivers are comparable to western countries. Fuel price is also cheap at AED6.25 per gallon.

You can easily rent a car from the airport at competitive rates.

An expat favourite with British grub

by amna24 about ALLY PALLY CORNER

The quaint English Pub exudes a cheerful ambience, complete with warm interiors, a billiards table table, sports T.V. channels (with 62 inch screen) and friendly staff complete the package. The menu lists all the drinking classics, from peppered steak to all day English breakfasts, and throws a couple of more left-field options into the mix.
