Shangri-La - Great Choice
Ever since it opened, I've been wanting to try the Shangri-La in Abu Dhabi. One of the reasons it took me so long is its location, which I originally thought would be inconveniently far (it's 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi), but I realised it was actually a plus when I finally stayed here in Nov 2012. The hotel is very luxurious with excellent service, but reasonably priced for what it offers. It has stunning views over the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque, and comes with its own private beaches and all other amenities. Next to it, is Souk Qaryat al Beri, a shopping complex with everything. The whole hotel and complex is more similar to hotel complexes in Dubai then the regular hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

During a visit to this beautiful and modern souk located at Shangri la hotel you can: - shop for traditional sartifacts, painting, camels, etc as well as jewerly, clothes, etc. - eat at fine restaurants and bars - have a nice view of the big mosque - have a free boat ride thru the souk and hotel
In general is a nice place to have a view of the big mosque and relax for the evening.

Accomodation and Taxi Fares in Abu Dhabi
by Harriet24
Hi there,
I am going to Abu Dhabi in June with my friend for a stop over, we are just there for a day between flights. Just wondering where is best to stay that is near the airport? Also how much is a taxi from the airport to the city? Thanks very much for your help in advance!

The airport is about a 30 minute drive from the city. I would say the Shangri-La Souk Qaryat Al Beri or the the Fairmont Hotel would be the closest. They might not be the cheapest though. A taxi from the airport to the city will cost you about 50-70 Dirhams. I don't know if it has changed a lot since those prices, but roughly around that.
