abu hotel for one night stay

by debsi2

hello, we are flying etihad airlines from uk to australia with a one night stopover on Sunday 5th December , leaving on Monday 6th December 2010 , never been to UAE , and am struggling a bit re whereabouts of hotel, have gone off Yas Island as now realise , not much else there! would like to try and get a feel for abu dhabi , am looking at now staying at Vision hotel apartments ,but is that a long way from airport? roughly how long would journey take by taxi, and taxi cost? have also considered Hilton Corniche, or would we be better to stay nearer airport , eg traders, am trying not to break the bank! with hotel choice, I believe that 6th december is new years eve in UAE will that make the traffic very busy , we would need to be back at airport by 6-7pm (our flight leaves about 10pm) Many thanks for any help advice , will also be stopping over again 9th 10th jan 2011.

Travel Tips for Abu Dhabi

COMMUNICATIONS

by amna24

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (commonly known as Etisalat) is the sole telecommunications provider in the Emirates. They are responsible for telephones, landlines and mobiles, pagers and the Internet. Comprehensive information on services and related charges can be found in the Etisalat telephone directory.

You can also visit their website: Emirates where you can find the YELLOW PAGES online to gather any particular information.

For international country rates listing check the Etisalat phone book. Note: Cheap rates for overseas calls operate from 9pm to 7am every weekday and from 2pm to 4pm in certain countries. On Fridays the rates are half the usual ones. A good time to call home.

Etisalat Information:
Tel: 02 633 3111
Fax: 02 634 4432
Information: 180(English)
Fault reporting: 170(English)
Billing Information: 142(English)
Speaking clock: 140(English)
Operator assistance: 100

As for mobile phones, most people in Abu Dhabi seem to own a mobile phone, if not two. Mobiles can be bought from Etisalat, specialized telecommunications shops or from most electronic shops and malls. The application for a mobile phone SIM card is available at any Etisalat service centre. You can also buy a temporary SIM card which enables you to make & receive calls. The process is fairly simple and can be done in an hour. Once you have received the SIM card you are ready to dial. Etisalat has a range of payphones installed at convenient locations throughout the Emirates. To use one of them, simply purchase a phone card available in two denominations- 9 $ & 12$ or you can buy a pre-paid phone card from which you can dial from your home as well. The instructions are given on the card itself.

Easy transport to Dubai

by Srechko

Dubai is around 100km away and getting there is quite simple.

From the main bus station there are minibuses leaving often (as soon as they find enough passengers). It gets quite packed occasionally but it is definitely worth it as part of an authentic experience.

The ride is cheap - 20 durhams (around US$6).

Another Crown in Abu Dhabi

by easternpromise about Golden Crown

My friend and I have eaten in the Golden Crown and enjoyed every minute. You can sit in a private booth and concentrate on savoring the tasty food. The service is excellent without being fawning. As a vegetarian I concentrated obviously on the nonmeat dishes. There are some veggie dishes that you won't find on other menus, such as Sabzi Hydrabadi or Dingri Mutter. The vegetable biryani is very good and the bread is worth ordering. Start the meal with one of their exotic juices.
