Dubai City Tour
by feibeesi
Hi all,
I'll be landing in Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight at around 7 am and have the whole day to while away until my connecting flight at 9pm.
I plan to do a Dubai city tour.
Can anyone advise what is the best way to do this. Join a tour or simply hire the taxi. I much prefer hiring a taxi since this gives me more flexibility. Can anyone advise how much would it cost to hire a taxi for a few hours around Dubai and then back to Sharjah airport?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I think if you get to Deita City Center Shopping Mall (In Dubai) you can get the Big Bus Tours and it would be much more fun than renting a taxi by yourself. In the mall they have a big food court and various restaurants so after the tour you can have a meal and shopping around!!
To rent a taxi by hour call Dubai Transport Taxi on 04-2080808
Good luck.

Hello from Dubai :-)
I wouldn't recommend hiring a taxi. First of all you will most probably end-up with a taxi driver from Sharjah who might not know Dubai very well. And even if the taxi driver does know where he's going, he might easily drive you all over town with longer distances to get a bigger fee from you, and you'll end-up missing many of the sights.
The best option is to join the BIG BUS TOUR:

Another thing to keep in mind is that you'll be heading back from Dubai to Sharjah at the WORST TIME possible. Hundreds of thousands of people live in Sharjah and commute to Dubai every day. Rush-hour back to Sharjah starts from 5pm onwards, and the short distance to Sharjah airport could take you up to 2 or 3 hours because of such heavy traffic! So good if you plan ahead and leave Dubai earlier.

What ever you end up doing that day, I hope you enjoy it. However, Never underestimate the time required to drive back to Sharjah esp. that you might catch the Evening rush hours. If I were you I'll be riding a taxi back to Sharjah Airport @ 5 o'clock (Not a minute later) to catch my 9 p.m. flight. You don't want to be in the 7 o'clock traffic.
If I had 14 hrs only and was arriving and departing from sharjah esp. that I don't know any one in the country I would stick to Sharjah. There is no need to aggrevate your self in Dubai-Sharjah traffic. You can visit the Desert wild life area, among other things. Me be others who are more familiar with Sharjah can throw in more suggestions.
good luck
Travel Tips for Sharjah
visit Khor Fakkan
by awladhassan
Khor fakkan is a lovely little town that attracts tourists from Abu Dhabi and Dubai especially for weekends because there are opportunities for indulging in water sports. The best place to stay is probably the Oceanic Hotel which offers many water based activities.
There are a number of sandy beaches in coves around the coast that are only reached by access from the sea.
The town itself is not very large but the port is quite busy as gabbro is mined for export to other Gulf countries and beyond for road building.
King Faisal Mosque
by xiquinho
Like many of Sharjah’s mosques, this one is a recent addition, having been completed in 1985. Accommodating up to 3,000 worshippers, it is spectacular for its sheer size and is the biggest in the UAE.
However, compared to some of the prettier mosques in Sharjah, this one has a functional and modern look, with two towering minarets and a single swollen dome. Situated in Al Ittihad Square, the King Faisal is one of Sharjah’s main landmarks.
Al-arsa Souq

I did not try to buy anything so I can't comment on the prices. walk around and have look @ old local architecture, esp that the place is air conditioned. There are few basic canteens and plenty of shops
More quiet...then Dubai!
by ludogatto
This Emirates is the prosecution of Dubai Emirates, but the city is more quiet, the rules are a little bit strong...so it's impossible to finde alchoolic in the Hotel like u can find in Dubai....but is nice...the souck is perfect to do shopping...but remember that in the Eau there are a few traditional handycraft product....there are a lot of souvenir that came from Pakistan, Indonesia, India, China,.......I bought a mervellouse shisa to give to a friend, but the glass bottle was made in Bhoemia region in Czhec republic.....the carpets came from Iran, an so on....
I spent 2 days there cause my boy friends is a stewart of Alitalia Airline and the crow stay in a Hotel in this area....
