Haggle for taxi prices
by Sophie1980
Don't accept the taxi driver's first offer - always haggle. In Sharjah, never pay more than 5/10 dirhams for a taxi. If they say no, shut the door and wait for another one. Because there's one thing you can guarantee here and that's lots of taxis. You won't be waiting long. Also, taxi drivers go by landmarks and big shops so make sure you know one near the place you're going. It'll make it easier.
the blue souq
by call_me_rhia
The blue souq is the largest souq in Sharjah - and it's especially magnificent for its architecture and islamic design. There are two main wings with about 600 shops - and the wings are connected with overhead covered tunnels. In one you can buy gifts and electronics, in the other gold, gems and jewels. Upstairs prices are cheaper than downstairs prices, because the rent for these shops is lower.
Remember: the souq is open every day from 9 am to 1 pm AND from 4 pm to 11 pm. Between 1 pm and 4 pm only carpet shops are open.

Quiter than Dubai
by xaver
I came here from Dubai to take the flight to Yemen and once again to visit the souk. It's a smaller and quiter town than the busy Dubai, you notice that even in the colour of the sky which is sure more clean as there is not the pollution you find in the big city.
