In all my travels I have never seen a staff team so incompent; meaning they don't have knowledge about Dubai or basic information for guests such as how to get places, what is open when, etc. There are no taxis available at night to take you anywhere and buses are impossible to deal with. There are limo taxis availabe but will charge you an arm and leg. There is pressure from staff to take the limo taxis as if they get a kickback. Be careful because these limo taxis often take the long way to a specific desination to charge you more. They act dumb in orfder to get away with it. They buffet food at this hotel smells like glue and the sight of the eggs and meat made me ill. The hallways smell bad too. It's really nasty. We could not eat there. The place just smells! The photos online are misleading! The rooms are small and very basic. The exercise facility is OK, but the equiptment is outdated, but OK for a quick workout if thats your thing. Staff have a hard time understanding English and there is a real vibe there they don't care although we found a couple staff who were OK. The main problem here is the location. Unless you have a rental car stay away from this place. You'll pay more taking taxis everywhere. There is a free shuttle everyday to the City Center mall which is nice, but thats it. It runs at 10pm back to the hotel. The pool was decent, but small. The shopping mall attached to this hotel is also misleading. 90% of the stores are womans clothing. 1/2 the mall stores open seldom. There is one small Iranian grocery store for emergency stuff which was helpful. The food court was slim picking with a pastry shop, subway and a arabic chicken stand which smelled like dirty feet. In short, stay away -this hotel is not worth saving a few dollars. Pay more and find a place to enjoy yourself. You wont here.
Unique Quality: The pool was OK, but small and the sun goes behind other building by 2pm so you'll be in the shade from 2 on. They will do your laundry for you, but they dont fold it so its stuffed back in a bag wrinkled and it smells funky.
A major dissapointment is the only way I can describe this hotel. I booked it because it had lovely looking executive suites on its website. In reality it didnt! The executive check-in didnt exist, Oh the counter did but no one to man it. We waited nearly 30 minutes to check in. The rooms were smelly, small and dark, and if a 2 foot diameter table is classed as executive dining.....! On the 4th floor, the so called executive floor someone had obviously spilt milk because the smell of sour milk was so over whelming I nearly threw up in the corridor. The lounge was ok, large and airy, the food was dreadful and the internet was charged at an outragious hourly rate, unheard of on an executive floor. The al bustan hotel and apts is not much more than a knocking shop and I would heartily recommend everyone to give it a wide berth.
Unique Quality: small pool, no views, bad food.
When you see a feature on Dubai, they always show the 5 star hotels The Emirates Towers, Burj al Arab, Jumeirah beach… …and the list goes on. The hotels in Dubai are now the city’s main attraction.
So when I arrived at the Al Bustan Residence, I was a bit disappointed cause from the outside it looked like a government school very DULL!
Anyway the next day, I woke up early and before breakfast I wondered around the complex and quickly changed my mind. There are so many shops inside that I got lost. This hotel is equipped with every thing. If you need some thing, you’ll find it within the complex and you don’t have to go far.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. And the rooms are spacious and clean. So for those who can not afford the luxurious hotels on Sheikh Zayed road, this hotel is good enough to make your stay in Dubai unforgettable
Unique Quality: A large Shopping Mall with over 80 outlets and one of the highest indoor amusement arcade in the UAE
Shops include: Ladies textile, jewellery shops, shoe & bags, pharmacy, music shop, hair dresser, Accessories & Cosmetics, stationary, souvenir shop, Bank, supermarket...
Restaurants in the complex: McDonald's, Al Nahda Restaurant, Al Nahda Banquet Hall, Food Court, Subway, Pastry Corner, Fantasy Kingdom Café & La Forneria Cafe
It's enough far hotel from the center of the city but there are busses to the center and to the beach. Nevertheless I liked this place to stay. Moreover you can get only breakfast here and in dinner and supper you can prepare in the room because every room has a kitchen. There are hypermarket near by the hotel and you can buy everything there: food, clothes, thechnik and so on. So you have all and far from center and not so much people.
Unique Quality: I should say sometimes I had doubts is it really 5* hotel. Because I needed some things and they said "we can't do it, sir" So, when I'm a client and 5* hotel's workers can't satisfy my wish...

Hi everyone.. have been reading all posts and I must say this is one really helpful group. I just got an employment offer at a Big 4 firm at their Sharjah office.
Sorry for the trouble and pardon in case this is the umpteenth number people are asking about accomodation, but I will try to make the question as specific. My friend also has an offer from the same firm, but at their Dubai office. We were planning to stay together, but this development put things out of track. Are there decent and cheap accomodation available midway between Dubai and Sharjah? What would you suggest as best option for us?
Thanks a ton again, and I cant wait to meet you all in the next Dubai VT meeting.!

Hi there,
Yes there are many residential buildings located on the border of Dubai and Sharjah (Its near to Sahara Shopping mall) cheaper than renting in Dubai. It would be a good option if you rent a flat and share it.
Good luck.
Amir
I agree with Amir.
There are some nice apartments between Dubai & Sharjah, or on the edge of Dubai near the Al Mulla Plaza and Al Bustan Centre.
Mind you: the traffic in that area is hellish. You could also opt for living in Rashidya area or Mirdif area, which is also at the end of Dubai and you can take different (quicker!) routes to Sharjah.
Good luck,
Jess ;-)
Thank you very much, Amir and Jess.
The main reason why I was asking about a place between Sharjah and Dubai is that me and my friend are planning to share an apartment. His place of work is Dubai, while mine is Sharjah. A place that is reasonably equidistant to Sharjah and Dubai would be great.
Also, is it true that it take 1 Hr from Sharjah to Dubai? I thought the distance is only 15 kms.
thx
Nish
That's right: the distance is only very short, but thousands and thousands of people live in Sharjah to save money and commute to Dubai every day... the highway isn't capable of handling all of these cars during the morning and evening rush hours, so it's Stop-and-Go traffic all the way. In the mornings, it takes you around 1 hour from Sharjah to Dubai. In the evenings going back to Sharjah can take more than 1 1/2 hours!
Therefore living somewhere in between would be the best choice. But it depends how much you can pay for a flat, in Dubai rents are more :-)
Good luck
