help please

by edwinic

A friend of mine will be visiting his girlfriend in dubai around 20Sept this year. This friend is travelling by saptco bus from saudi arabia.

are there any restiction for him to travel (visa and similar documents) ?

are there hotels that are basic and less expensive?

Re: help please

by JessH

Hello from Dubai,

you need to tell us what kind of passport your friend holds... his nationality depends on whether he needs to apply for a visa or not, etc.

yes, there are some cheaper hotels available in Dubai - and due to the summer months and a steep drop in tourists this year many of the hotels have decreased their prices extremely.

Some of these are ok quality for money:

Various Hotels of the Ramee Group:

Hi JessH,

Thanks for that hotel lists. That's very helpful.

My friend is a Filipino, he's an engineer but I doubt if his iqama/visa reflect such. Likely it will be a technician visa but I will confirm later.

Re: help please

by 37SingleMaleInDubai1

Probably when he wants to buy the bus ticket, they would inform him. However, a citizen of The Philippines would need a visa to travel to U.A.E. Let him check with U.A.E embassy in Saudi if he may avail a visa on the border if he already has a valid work visa from The Kingdom.

The following is a deal I have on my deals page for accommodation:

Accommodation for low budget travelers :-)

Many tourists like to visit Dubai and for some hotel prices are a bit expensive.
There is a good deal by U.A.E. Youth Hostel Association. If they have a vacancy then three days of stay is guaranteed for you, after that you have to check with them if still they can extend your stay. They have hostels in Dubai, Sharjah, Fujeirah and Kourfakkan. The price for one night per person is about $20 or even less in some hostels. You have to contact them by phone and fax and make sure that you have a confirmed place before coming to Dubai. I leave the contact detail of Dubai hostel, for other emirates contact them and ask the contact details. Taxi direction to Dubai Youth Hostel Association is:
Al-Nahda Road, after Al-Ahli Club same side of Al-Mulla Plaza

Travel Tips for Dubai

No boozing publicly please ; ))

by airasia

Anyway, booze is avaiable. So don't freak out, as it is avaiable to non-muslim in the most city's bars, nighclubs and certain restaurant located in hotels.

Again it all depends, places like Hard Rock Cafe, they dont served any alcohol. How weird is that ?

Plan B - head down to any Super or Hypermarket to get the booze as per the picture here. But just take note, its 0% alcohol but smells like one : ))

You must Nocochi at Vivel

by ozibird

A very delicious experience not to be missed and incredibly addictive if you live here. Such a selection of the most exotic middle eastern treats mmmmmmmmm, the choice is too hard, so they will give you a selection.

From innovative and ancient Persian recipes, the Iranian family business are quality orientated and use the best of ingredients such as butter from Australia!

Vivel Patisserie has 5 coffee shops in the UAE, also in Canada and US. In Dubai, there is a relaxing courtyard shop on Jumeriah Beach road opposite Jumeriah Beach park, one in Deira and also in the busy Madinat.

These tiny treats look like a cookie or shortbread. It melts almost at once in your mouth with a rush of cardamom that is a lovely surprise. Nocochi….mmmmm made from finely ground chickpea flour and spices. The chocolate and cardamom is taste bud treat.

You will not believe their exotic range of mini- pastries, Turkish delights, and wonderful dried fruits. All so daintily small that you can almost try them all! All shapes from golden crescents, glazed diamonds, pistachio-dusted cocoa rounds, squares of meringue, jam-dotted discs, knobs of walnuts and vanilla. Hazelnut rubs with strawberry, almonds are heart-shaped with apricot; they're feathered with powdered sugar, licked with chocolate, encrusted with coconut flakes.

Also one of the few great coffee shops to serve Illy coffee – my favourite.

Mall for everyone

by BorneoGrrl about Deira City Center

Deira City Center has plenty of shops for everyone, with over 300 stores to choose from. Debenhams & Carrefour are a number of big name outlets you can visit. New Look from UK has trendy clothes for girls/women at reasonable prices and Studio R is where you can find lots of sports attire.

There are a number of restaurants & food courts to choose from. A cineplex is located on the top floor. You won't be short of stores to shop from for all budgets.

Where ladies endulge & men wish they could...

by JessH about BOUDOIR

One of Dubai's most exclusive, expensive and pretencious night spots, its decor reminds of a set from "Moulin Rouge" with dark-red velvet seating, heavy curtains & candlelight. There is an air of romance & passion, enflamed by the French Renaissance period, yet with an added twist of Baroque arrogance.
Neverthess, if you can get in (the bouncers have been known to be rather "picky") you quickly adjust to the overpowering athmosphere and with the right crowd the night can be quite enjoyable.

Whilst girls are often spoilt, the guys might find themselves broke by the end of the night... this place does NOT come cheap! A simply vodka & coke costs Dhs 48! (13 US Dollars!)

From 07.30 pm until midnight you can have dinner to the Jazz & Latino lounge music along with classic tunes by Shade, Shirley Bassey, Barry White, etc.
By midnight, the lights go down, the music goes up and the DJ takes it to the next level. Creating his own club atmosphere with Funky, Latino, Filtered & Tribal house music along with the hottest and latest R&B grooves. The dance floor isn't really a dance floor, but a small & sufficient space near the DJ booth.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Sundays - free Bellini's all night for ladies.

Monday - Jazz Night.

Tuesday - Champagne Night:
Complimentary Champagne all night for ladies.

Wednesday & Friday - R&B Nights.
Free cocktails for ladies 'til midnight on Wednesday's & ladies get treated to free champagne on Friday's. Dress to impress! This place is very "chic" to the point of almost snobby. So dress up, glam up and walk in.

NOTE: Take your I.D. with you! Legal partying-age in Dubai is 21, and this is one of the clubs that basically checks everyone!

Opening Hours: 07:30pm - 03:00am

Seeing her skin feeling silky smooth
Colour of cafe au lait,
Made the savage beast inside
Roaring till it cried More, More, More!
Now he's at home doing 9 to 5
Living his brave life of lies,
But when he turns off to sleep
All memories keep More, More, More.
