Kim, is it your own car or a hire car?
If it's a hire car, have a look at:

I did this drive ~1 week ago. I'd love to go again, but can't.
In my humble opinion, it might be a bit longer, but recommend driving on the south-west side of the mountains. You could to the coastal route on the opposite direction and cut off some time.
Pass Al Ain, and enter south into Oman.
Go through Ibri, to Bahla. You can go up to Misfat Al Abriyyin among other places. Nice mountain stop!
Continue to Nizwa. There's some places to stop on the way. Last stop is Muscat.
On the return, if you take the coastal route, make an inland detour to see Nakhal and Ar Rustaq
Travel Tips for Dubai
Respect Women
by mstali
Do not look into the eye of female or try to make eye contact with them. It is considered rude.
Dubai locals and expatriate women are well educated and can converse in english very well.
Speak to them in a respectful manner keeping a distance, you may get a reply to your question. Refrain from any indecent gestures or remarks against them in public or private, since most of the malls, shopping complexes and hotels are under surveillence round the clock.
Dubai has a very elite police force, which works round the clock tirelessly to keep Dubai a safe tourist destination. Dubai police force officers are very humble and helpful and can speak most of the languages in the world. They deal with people of 200 nations. DIAL 999 FOR POLICE if you need any help in Dubai.
Rare sighting....
by RinaNeo
Wonder why the chicken cross the road? Well I guess I found the answer why the camel cross the road right here , on my way to the oman borders... So why did the camel cross the road?..... check it out folks....
Got it? I bet there wasn't enough food on the other side of the road :) The authorities actually fenced up the area just to prevent the camels from using the road. It will cost danger to both the camel as well as the cars.. and I have seen it with my own eyes the poor camel lying dead by the roadside. I was just too sad to take the pics....
The best value gold in the world?
by SWFC_Fan about The Gold Souk
Dubai is said to be one of the best value for money places in the world for buying gold.
In fact, there is a whole souk dedicated to selling all manner of gold jewellery.
The “Gold Souk” is located in Deira, not far from the creek, and consists of a long, shaded stretch of shops, which to me all seemed to be selling pretty much the same goods. I’m assured that the prices are very favourable, (I genuinely wouldn’t have a clue how much gold jewellery costs!), and the fact that this souk attracts so many well-heeled tourists would tend to back this up.
Even if you’re not looking to buy, it’s worth having a stroll through the souk to witness the seemingly endless window displays of shining gold!
GETTING DOWN AND DIRTY
by Siddha3th about ROCK BOTTOM CAFE
Gritty and legendary. A world away from the poshness of pretty little clubs, the Rock Bottom Cafe in Bur Dubai wears its underdog status like a badge of pride. Anything and everything can go down here, and on most nights, it usually does!
This place is pretty huge, and there's everything from a pool parlour (with plenty of pool tables) to a dancefloor to a mini-stage packed into RBC. Not to mention 3 separate bars. The kicking resident band, Cinderella Rockafella, posses just the right amount of swagger 'n zeal to drive regular patrons into a suitably drunk frenzy.
(In)famous, raunchy, sweaty. Guess RBC's gonna' remain the same till its last bar stool's been hung up. And three cheers to that! Preferably with the bar's in-house superstar - The Bullfrog :) There's a dress code?! Well someone forgot to tell the people in here!! ;)
By the water: Boardwalk
by uglyscot about Boardwalk Restaurant
The Dubai Creek Yacht and Golf Club has 3 restaurants {Legends, Aquarium and Boardwalk}. We went to Boardwalk.
The restaurant is overlooking the creek so has a nice view.
The service was excellent. After our meal we walked around the gardens and down by the moorings to see the boats. The food was very good . All the dishes we had were tasty..
Fish and chips and Caesar salad.
