Re. gay behavior
by LIifeLover
[this is written in response to a Q regarding 'gay behavior'] unless you're passionately kissing a person of the same sex, i think no one will notice you and your sig. other....anything beyond this type of physically affectionate behavior between people of the same sex, i didn't see or know about, as some feel 'gay behavior' is subjective and others objective...if you're trying to hook up with someone of the same sex, you'll have to ask the experts who live there....when i visited dubai, i saw plenty of men being very affectionate, and girls holding hands and stuff - pretty much everywhere i went...good luck
D.I.Y. Desert Driving - Safety Tips.
by JessH
Many people enjoy taking the wheel into their own hands & heading-off into the sands, underestimating the lethal potential of the desert, no matter how close or far you are from the city.
I've taken my Jeep off-road many times and here's a useful check-list:
1. MAIN RULE: Never drive into the desert with less than 3 cars!
2. The most experienced driver leads the way
3. Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to return
4. Examine the radiator for leaks
5. Turn off the air conditioning to avoid the car overheating & watch the temperature gauge
6. Check all the car's fluids: oil, coolant, brake fluid, gear oil etc.
7. Be certain your headlights, taillights & brake lights work
8. Bring a map. A good one is the "Offroad Explorer" hand book for UAE & Oman
9. Check your tires; don't deflate them too much! Otherwise you'll need a pump
10. Make sure at least 2 persons have tow-ropes & an especially designed balloon-air-jack for the sand (any normal jack will, of course, sink!)
11. Keep your distance! You cannot break abruptly in soft sand.
12. In case of having to pull a stuck car, stand well clear of the towing rope & close all windows. If the rope snaps, it could easily cut someone's head off!
13. Bring plenty of drinking water.
14. Pack a first-aid-kit... it can be a long drive to the nearest medical help
15. If you want a camp fire, bring wood... there's no wood in the desert!
16. Make sure you have at least 2 fully charged mobile phones in your group
17. TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME WITH YOU so you don't affect local wildlife & so the next person can enjoy the beauty of the desert!

CHEERS TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD PUB
by Siddha3th about WAXY O' CONNOR'S
God bless the Irish. As if creating Guiness weren't enough, they also went and populated almost every major city in the world with atleast one quaint, neighborhood pub which went on to become everybody's staple. In the locality of Bur Dubai, that honour rests with Waxy O' Conner's (Waxy's, for short).
Short on frills and almost dangerously dingy, nothing really strikes you about the interiors upon first entering the joint. Pool table inside, a couple of bars, and loads of sofas 'n tables strewn about - pub by numbers, mostly. But what Waxy' lacks in the style department, it more than makes up with its outrageous theme nights. Karaoke showdowns, '80s get-togethers, and more free alcohol for the girls than should be legal. And then there's the Friday Brunch - a rowdy, inebriated affair resulting from a 50 Dhs. free-for-all!
A nice place to warm your soul (and throat) before heading off elsewhere. For those of us in Bur Dubai, Waxy's IS our Cheers :) Super casual!
The best shawarma in town!
by xty about Al Mallah
This is probably the best shawarma sandwich I ever taste in Dubai. Crispy sliced grilled chicken with tasty garlic paste rolled in a delicious pita bread.
One shawarma sandwich costs 4 Dirhams, but sometimes they give a discount when you buy many. The size is not big so normally I take 3-5 pieces each time. You can eat in the restaurant or you can just take them out.
The restaurant is located on Al Dhiyafah road which is one of the top spots in Dubai. It has many restaurants, cafes, and stores. Chicken shawarma sandwich. There are also other choices of Middle Eastern (Lebanese) foods like falafel, grilled chicken, etc.
