night time near al rigga road

by LBR

I will be staying near Al Rigga Road while in Dubai, is this a safe area to be walking around a night time, also is there any good restaurants near here?

Re: night time near al rigga road

by Doctor38

It is very safe. Try the Safadi Resturant.

Re: night time near al rigga road

by JessH

Dubai is very safe.... but don't leave logic behind. There *are* the occasional pick pockets, just like in any major city. And the area around Al Rigga road is reknown for prostitutes, so you might see a fee of them standing on street corners.

There are plenty of very nice & authentic Arabic & Asian restaurants in that area, or you can go into some of the hotels (Renaissance Hotel, JW Marriott Hotel, etc.) and have a 5-star meal with alcohol.

Re: night time near al rigga road

by jivanne96

Yes it is very safe but the road now is under construction for the train. You can see fast food restaurant like KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Mcdonalds. Hotels like Ramee Hotel, Delmon Hotel which are very near to Al Rigga. Reinassance Hotel, Marco Polo hotel is like 2 more street away from Al Rigga but you can just walk and you will find it easily. There is also Al Gurair and Reef Mall if you want to go for shopping.

The Famous Al Rigga road is not very far from the Dubai Creek. If you want to have a walk try Creek of Dubai,it has a very beautiful scenery and the trading history of Dubai starts from there!!

Re: night time near al rigga road

by JessH

Exactly, Amir.
The Dhow Wharf is by BANIYAS ROAD... great for taking photos there. Every day I see tourists walking past the dhows and traders, taking photos.

Re: night time near al rigga road

by colin_bramso

That's my favourite part of Dubai - walk along the Creek past all the dhows and on into the spice & gold souks, then back to the Creek via Naif Souk. It's all perfectly safe, even the dimly lit narrow alleyways in the souk area.

I'm currently looking for a place to stay near al rigga road for Jan till Feb 08. Does anyone know of any cheap appartments/homes/rooms etc. near the area. Thanks.

Re: night time near al rigga road

Cheap is a general word, whats cheap for you maybe is very expensive for other traveller or vise versa. However for that period you should either stay in a hotel or a furnished hotel apartment, to have a good idea of them and how to contact them, check my hotel/accommodation pages on the following URL:

Good luck.

Dubai Hotel

by Monkey-head

I would like to find a decent hotel at a resonable price in Dubai for next month. I know time is of the essence, can anyone recommend a decent hotel that doesnt cost too much. I basically want somewhere clean, friendly, good value for money, nice rooms & baths and safe for me and my girlfriend in Deira or Bur Dubai for less than £100.
Please help, time is running out I know especially for Jan!
Thanks!

RE: RE: Dubai Hotel

Man, DO NOT stay at the RAMEE HOTEL APARTMENTS. I was there a few weeks ago and I picked up a bacterial skin infection from their dirty a$$ sheets. I didnt think much of it at first because it could have been anything, but then my fiance got the same thing a few days ago. She was staying there while looking for a long term apartment. She had to go to the American hospital where the Doctor diagnosed it, and said it was most likely from unsanitary sheets or towels. So unless you have antibiotics on hand and can stand a staph infection, DO NOT go there. To make matters worse, the managemet argued with her and said that any compensation to us would come out of the housekeepers pay which is 600 AED a month.

Another Deira question!

by keralamiss

Following on from my other posting on walking in Deira, to which I had very helpful replies, I now would like to know what the Delmon Hotel is like. I have been offered a reasonable rate for a stay in May next year. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Another Deira question!

by 37SingleMaleInDubai1

Its a four star hotel located in Deira, Al Riqqa road. The hotel has got swiming pool, Gym and a night club. Overall its okay for a short holiday and they do provide courtesy transport to some tourist attraction areas and shopping malls. We have a long way till next May, maybe you get even better offers till then!!

Re: Another Deira question!

Thanks 37. Are you saying I should wait a while before I book? Do you think prices would come down? I had asumed that May would not be high season.

Re: Another Deira question!

by colin_bramso

You're right, May isn't the high season, it's the end of the tourist season really. By June the weather is hotting up and things like shopping festivals and low hotel rates are used to try to attract the tourists. But as Amir said, you may find better deals a little closer to the time.

Re: Another Deira question!

by 37SingleMaleInDubai1

Hello Colin and welcome miss,
What I meant is if you are going to pay for the booking NOW and let your money stay with the hotel for the next 8 months then maybe you can hold it. Few weeks before your intended holiday you can approach the hotel and travel agents in your area, probably you would get good offers that time as well!!
Good luck.

Re: Another Deira question!

Thank you both for your help. It's wait and see then!

Travel Tips for Dubai

The Chess Olympic Monument

by bugulma

It's the symbol of the Chess Olympic Games of 1987 in Dubai. I like to play chess and I had to photo here. Moreover, if I remember rightly, USSR won that games :-)) The monument is situated in the embankment, near of Dubai municipality.

Watering devices

by solopes

One of the landmarks of Arab culture in Portugal is the “nora”, a very ingenious device to pull water from the wells.

I thought that the device standing in the museum’s yard was something alike, but it doesn’t: it is hands driven, more primitive or maybe, more suitable to elevate water from deeper wells.

Another Dubai Wonder!

by MM212 about Ibn Battuta Mall

Ibn Battuta Mall is another artificial, yet magnificent, Dubai oasis. Considered one of the largest shopping centres in the world, Ibn Battuta Mall was designed to shadow the travels of the great discoverer, Ibn Battuta. Each country or civilisation he encountered has been designated a separate section in the mall with interior and exterior architecture drawn from that civilisation. These include Andalusia, Tunisia, Egypt, Persia, India and China. This Mall reminded me of the Aladdin and other theme hotels in Las Vegas, but to its credit, it has an interesting permanent exhibition on Islamic civilisations and Ibn Battuta's voyages making it far more valuable culturally than the Las Vegas counterparts! Despite being a copy, the architecture is indeed beautiful and sumptuous. The Mall seems to include anything and everything from a cinema, to foot massages, and the usual clothes and restaurants. It is a great place to waste many afternoon hours to escape the summer heat.

Dubai Metro - UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

by MM212

It's coming! But not for a couple of years... Dubai is working on its first metro, a train system along Sheikh Zayed Road linking old and new Dubai, with plans to extend it to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The attached photo shows some of the construction work on the elevated part of the railway taken in 2007. This is the emirate's effort to reduce the extreme traffic congestion that is caused by a population explosion. The second photo shows one of the stops along the railway (outside Burj Dubai) in Oct 2008.

Fast, Healthy Lunch

by Shibiru about The Lime Tree Cafe

They have a great selection of healthy salads, sandwiches, fresh juices, meals and fantastic deserts! I think the owners are from New Zealand.

The entire concept of the restaurant is that while you are waiting in the queue, the fridge is next to you and you choose what you feel like eating, drinking, trying out. You receive a number after you pay and they serve it to you at your table...they always have seats inside and outside. It's always busy but the service is fast in both locations! There are many! I love the salads with vegetables, the tikka chicken sandwich and for desert a slice of the carrot cake or the chocolate brownie (which is more like a bar of chocolate then a brownie) :) For drinking: triple berry juice, banana smoothie and their natural ice tea (capuccinos and moccas are also great there!)
