Beach Hotel

Lovely 4 star hotel on the beach. A bit far from the city but a lovely setting. Large rooms and a huge pool. Used by Europeans mostly. Extensive building work going on at the back of hotel in July2003. (Dubai Marina)

No-frills hotel by Holiday Inn

by colin_bramso about Express by Holiday Inn

Friends stayed here and gave a good report.

It's a no-frills hotel, which means that the staff to guest ratio is smaller than most hotels, they have only one all-day dining restaurant and they do not offer room service food & beverage.

But everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided - front desk, porters etc, good size rooms, daily room servicing. It has a small gym, laundry/dry cleaning service, a business centre. The rooms have tea/coffee making facilities plus a small fridge. And as you would expect, the hotel is well run by Holiday Inn.

The no-frills concept is reflected in good room rates and breakfast is included.

Our friends stayed here because it's close to where we live at Dubai Marina which made collecting them to take them sightseeing each day was convenient.

Dubai Marina

by georeiser

Dubai Marina is the largest man made marina in the world with the tallest and most spectacular residential buildings. The area is also a major tourists spot with many hotels. The beach is nice and the nightlife is good along the beachside. It takes about 30 minutes with taxi from the airport to Dubai Marina, which should cost about 70-90 AED (20-25 USD).

Jumeira beach, Dubai

by georeiser

Jumeira beach at Dubai Marina is a very nice and long sandy beach. It is the most famous beach in Dubai, and the area has fine hotels. This is the place where most of the tourists hang out.

How far is dubai marina walk from downtown?

by sputti

that´s my question!
how much time you need with taxi from the greens /marina walk to downtown,
like Al Fahidi street/textil souk near by the abra station?
what do you think how much is the taxi?
and how much kilometers is it?

Dubai Marina to Al Fahidi Street is about 30 kilometres. Taxi will cost maybe around AED30. The Greens is about the same.

Halloechen Sputti :-)

If there is no traffic, it will take you approx. 15 - 20 min from Dubai Marina to Bur Dubai (Fahidi Street, etc.) but unfortunately, Dubai usually has a lot of traffic jams. So a more realistic time would be about 45 minutes, sometimes even more than 1 hour (during rush hour).

The taxi would cost approx. 60 Dirhams each way. Not sure how many kilometres it is...

Gruss,
Jess ('c',)

Hi Colin... it must be more than 30 Dhs... I remember taking a taxi from Jumeirah to Hard Rock Cafe and it was already 42 Dirhams...

Jess, I was trying to work it out from the airport taxi fare we had last week - you may be right that it's higher than I thought.

Tourist in Dubai for Christmas and New Year.

by sweety1

Dear all,
I have come to Dubai on my own to celebrate this Christmas and New year eve from Finland. I heard lot about this country and would like to visit all the emirates before New year.
I would like to meet VT members of Dubai if anyone intrested or we could arrange a VT meeting if possible. I am staying in a hotel in Dubai Marina so if possible to meet in Dubai marina area or i could get a taxi to come.
I would like to know apart from dubai which is the good city where i can relax on the beach stay in a clam place, have lots of drinks and have fun. I request all the VT members of Dubai to please suggest me some good places to visit and do shopping as well.

Jane.

Welcome to VT and Dubai,
Well since you are new and do not know the place well, I suggest for going to other Emirates to use a tour company.
Meeting for a VT meeting is possible but it should be arranged in advance so that those who are interested to attend to make the free time for the meeting.
In your area, Ibn Batoota is in a close proximity for shopping.
Good luck.

internet in uae

I currently live in Hong Kong and am about to relocate to Dubai, but I'm addicted to bittorent. Specifically episodes of "Lost - season 2"

But are all of the bittorent websites blocked in UAE?
If so is there a way to get around the censorship?

RE: internet in uae

Inquire about the availability of your mentioned site from the following page:

Hi, welcome to VT.
If a site is blocked, it's blocked. The only way around it is to be in the Media/Internet City free zone & the six towers in Dubai Marina serviced by Tecom.
