A decent 3-star in the center of things

As a 3-star property, the Green Desert offers pretty fair value for money as Gulf hotels go. It’s not especially easy to find really cheap accommodations in Dubai – or anywhere else in the region. However, if you can manage 200 Dirhams or $60 a night with breakfast, this isn’t bad. Rooms are spotless, the bathrooms have been re-furbished, you’ll get satellite TV, an in-room refrigerator (unstocked), as well as a hair-dryer. On request the hotel will provide an iron and ironing board as well as adapter plugs for electrical items (I don’t believe they have transformers; make sure you know your voltages!).

The location is very central on Salahuddin Road, just off the Fish Roundabout, and a two minute walk from the Al-Ghurair Center, Dubai’s first really, really big shopping mall. It’s also no more than 15 minutes from the airport and from City Center, Dubai’s biggest and grandest shopping emporium. There are a number of small travel agencies nearby, one of which is Amin Travels , which is right next door and which specializes in cheap fares on odd airlines.

Unique Quality: The hotel also boasts an Indian, a Pakistani, and an Iranian night club, so if you want an evening of ethnic fun, this is an interesting place to start.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average
