Tipping for services in Dubai
by Dubaiherewecome
HI. We are Americans traveling to Dubia in 1 week! What is the average ammount to tip the Hotel staff when bringing in luggage? And Taxi tipping? Any others we might need to include? We are SO excited to come to your city!
See you soon.

hi,
it really depends on you how much u wish to tip, as mentioned by you to taxi and hotel staff (you can do it from 10aed to how much ever u want) keeping in mind there is no hard and fast rule about tipping it depends on once service offered and how much are you satisfied from the service
regards

Tippng is entirely different from in the US as it's not expected and not part of the business culture. For taxis I normally round the fare up - for example if it's AED16 I give them a AED20 note. If you want to give the porter something for bringing in the luggage make it AED5, or AED10 if he's carried a lot of heavy bags.

Changing your $ to U.A.E currency can be done in the airport but you would get a better rate while doing it in Murshid Bazar in Deira which they can offer you a lot of 5 AED notes for tipping :-)

I do not tip! I am a cheap-o! And still acceptable! Just joking!
For coffee, taxi, etc. I normally round it off to the nearest tenths. I normallly give 5 or 10 EAD to bellboy or waiter. Depending on the service I received. If it is bad service, discriminatory staff, etc., etc., i even rate staff by their looks and hygiene... :))
So up to you, I think its tha same standard everywhere about tipping. Staff here are more than happy to receive 100AED though! But once again, I am a CHEAP-O!
Travel Tips for Dubai
Dubai at a standstill
by Restless-in-kl
Dubai comes to a complete stop and become somewhat of a ghost town every Friday from 12 pm - 4pm.
All shops are closed including restaurants and there are no cars on the roads. So if you need a cab, make sure you hail one before this time.
Restaurants in hotels remain open and some of the shops in the malls.
This is because the whole of Dubai observes Friday prayers.
Glass dome

If you happen to go past the Marriott hotel in Deira, go in and walk up the stairs to the lobby. This area has been decorated like a garden and the ceiling is a huge glass dome that is definitely worth a look.
Huge stores, good prices
by pakistanibrain about Carrefour
I have found Carrefour to be an excellent place to do your grocery shopping as well as for home electronics. While furnishing my house here in Dubai I bought the fridge, the oven, the washing machine and the TV there as well as some other little stuff for the house.
Since moving to Dubai Carrefour I have become a regular customer of the Carrefour branch in the Mall of the Emirates where my wife and I do most of our grocery shopping. It is a 15 minute drive away from our house. Everything. There is almost nothing that you will not get here. Electronics, toys, home appliances, clothes, jewellery, ... and the list goes on and on. And of course the normal grocery that you would buy in a supermarket as well. Very reasonalble prices as compared to the rest of shops that I have seen in Dubai
Abra

A ride across the Creek is a great way to see close up the old & new buildings that line either side. The departure points on both sides are close to the entrances of the souks.
As these are commuter vehicles they can get busy at certain times. This however allows you an insight into Dubai for many of its citizens. It is possible though to hire your own Abra & have a tour of the Creek.
Mezze
by euzkadi about Anywhere in the creek
Mezzes are the region´s equivalent of tapas. Houmous, Tabbouleh, Fattoush or Mutabel, are very easy to obtain everywhere, including in the nice cafe´s along the creek. I loved these snacks. Also there are a lot of restaurants in Dubai, you can find any kind of food, but most of the restaurants are located in the hotels.
