Tours and Taxis

by wgd1903

I am hoping some one with local knowledge might be able to provide some advice. We are staying at The Address at Dubai Mall for our holidays next year. We have booked a day tour that is scheduled to end at 2pm, and we want to make a booking for high tea at Burj Al Arab for 4pm. My qesitions are 1) Do the tours normally finish on time? 2) Is it practical to get to the Burj Al Arab by 4pm by taxi if the day tour finishes at 2pm at The Address? 3)We are looking at doing this on a Friday. Are taxies easy to find on a Friday?
4) Roughly how much should I expect it to cost for the taxi ride?

Thanks in advance

A taxi from Dubai Mall to the Burj Al Arab should take approx 30 minutes and a taxi should cost no more than 40 dirhams, taxis are really easy to find, you will find queues of them outside the main malls and hotels so shouldnt be a problem at all. I have been to Dubai 3 times and from past experiences the tours usually end on time, the pick up time is normally the thing that can differ depending on traffic, but the drivers always seem to get you back ontime as they are due to finish so it is in their best interest ha ha.

Have you booked the high tea through a tour company or direct with the hotel? Doing it direct with the hotel would work out cheaper. Although it is still very expensive for what you get, but it is worth it for the experience.

I hope this answers your question, let me know if you need anything else =D

Usually Tours (If it is a desert safari) take you in some part of Dubai desert so after finishing the tour you can ask the driver to drop you at the entrance of Burj. They use Shaikh Zayed road so its not far for them. Also you can make it clear before booking the tour that where is your pick up point and drop off point so this should take care of your concern!!
Good luck.

Just a word of warning to be clear about the hotel and mall if you're telling taxi drivers where to go. There are two The Address hotels, one at Dubai Marina Mall and one at Dubai Mall. I assume you mean the one at Dubai Mall, in which case it will be clearer to taxi drivers if you say 'near Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa' to taxi drivers.

Taxis are easy to find any day of the week, they're metered and I guess it would be AED20 or 30 from the hotel to Burj Al Arab

Sheesha smoking

by Nemoa

This is a local pastime, to go to a sheesha cafe and smoke apple-flavoured tobacco.
The cafes open until midnight and there are several all over the town.

Price about 20 Dh, depending on the place.

I loved it but you can see that Javier is not that keen on it !

Ride the Creek on a bus

by fareleira

Wonder Bus Ride is a must activity you should try. We didn't do it the first days and then we just dropped.
Try to take the bus at the beginning of your holiday you get to know a part of the city and you get a wild ride!
The tour starts at Bur Juman Centre and at the ground floor you find a office where you can buy tickets.

Gadgets, Buttons, Boys'-Toys!

by JessH about PLUG INS ELECTRONIX

If you've heard that your new Ipod or digital camera may just be cheaper in Dubai... you've heard correctly.
However, electronics & multi-media items are no longer as cheap as they used to be, but that doesn't mean you won't find anything here: throughout the year plenty of sales & special offers draw people into electronics stores, looking for a bargain... and that's precisely why stores such as Plug-Ins ElectroniX is always swarming with tourists & residents alike...

The shop has over 300 brands, has the largest range of electronics in the UAE, and are always in stock on the hottest & latest products in the market.
There are also various stations where you can play the newest X-box, GameCube or Playstation games. (perfect for keeping the kids - and the grown-up guys - happy) This electronics store's product range includes televisions, laptops, computers, camcorders, home theatre systems, hi-fi audio systems, digital cameras, kitchen appliances, music CDs and cassettes, video games, DVDs and videos, plus all types of peripherals and accessories. TIP: Plug-Ins usually has special offers and fantastic promotions, and all products come with manufacturer's guarantee. But sometimes I find it useful to also check-out the Electronics Souk on Al Fahidi Street (Bur Dubai) or Computer Plaza (Bur Dubai)... you never know: you may just strike an incredible bargain, instead of paying full-price at Plug-Ins!

Take advantage of the cheap oil prices !

by Nemoa

One of the best ways to get around Dubai is by taxi.
Al taxis are new and confjortable and reliable.
Because the oil here is cheap, also their derivates are and the fuel is very cheap compared to Europe or USA, therfore the taxi rides are a total bargain compared to our home countries!

Quite often is better to take a taxi than to take buses or other kind of rides.
