Stayed during busy period into the Dubai Shopping Festival 2005. Staff try to be friendly but we had to ask for everything twice. Breakfast buffet extremely basic and unhealthy. Avoid the second floor when three different bars are located under you in the first floor.
Unique Quality: Pool on the rooftop. They where building a roof over it for shade in Jan. Should be an ok place to spend a couple of hours with a beer.
I will be staying at the K Porte Inn Hotel, any one Know what this is like?.. How far from the Gold Souks, and Deira City shopping Centre.? Also what is the Karama like to shop in, I have been told they have great selection of Handbags etc...
Its a 3 * hotel and should be fine for few days. Its very near to both Gold souk and Deira City center. It may take you about 30 minutes by walk or 10-15 minutes of taxi ride in rush hour to reach the locations.

It's a short walk to the gold souk but you'll need to take a taxi to Deira City Centre Mall. Karama is the other side of the Creek and the best thing to do is take the abra ferry across to Bur Dubai and get a taxi from there to Karama. Personally I don't like Karama, it's a concrete jungle of old buildings, but you can get good bargains there. You can find the same bargains in Naif Souk, just by the gold souk and also around Al Faheidi Street in Bur Dubai.
Karama is famous for it's fake brand items & souvenirs. To give you some price ideas:
I was there 2 evenings ago and purchased a large glass Fawanooz (Arabic lantern) for 150 Dirhams, a silk & Satin bed spread for 110 Dirhams, and a fake Tod's leather handbag for 225 Dirhams.
Fake Van Dutch, Adidas, Ripcurl, Quicksilver or Ed Hardy shirts costs around 20 - 69 Dirhams each.
