Any reviews on this hotel?

not bad, right in city center, stayed there once. They advertise them as 5 star but they are no way near 5 star, i would rate them 3star(european standard). The are clean but location was too noisy.

As advised, its in BurDubai in a very congested location, (Now everywhere in Dubai is congested :-). I had few friends staying there, no complain!!

It's operated by Le Meridien so it should be OK. The location is good, in the area where there are a lot of apartment hotels and it's walking distance to shops, the Creek, the souks, Burjuman Mall etc.

Well friend since the apartments are managed by Le Meridien then you can expect a very good quality and service. I am sure you already know about it :-). Welcome to Dubai and wish you a happy stay full of memorable times. Take care and be safe.

Its a 3* kind of a property. The area is good and near to places in Dubai.Creek is walkable and few shopping malls too.

Le Meridien has another property call Al Sandoos opposite City Center Shopping Mall. This is a better property.

Accomodation

by gitanna13

I know this is a well worn question, but I am taking advantage of a stopover on the way back from a holiday to europe. I have the choice of several hotels. I am not interested in the night life, but rather the cultural aspects, and possible a little shopping too and was wondering which would be the best.

Others to choose from are:
- Pearl Residence
- London Creek Apartments
- Ramee Hotel Apartments
- K -Porte Inn Hotel
- Admiral Plaza
- St George Hotel
- Golden Sands
- Regal Plaza Hotel
- Seashell Inn Hotel

Thanks any help would be appreciated as there seems to be little about the accomodation, bar a few simple we pages online.

If you are interested in the cultural aspect of Dubai, then the area of Bur Dubai near the creek is perfect.

Dar Al Sondos are located in this area.
I would also recommend the Pearl Residence or the London Creek Apartments (in a quiet area of Bur Dubai).

These are all within walking distance to the Textile Souk, Dubai Museum, Heritage Village/Sheikh Saeed House, etc. You can then take an "Abra" (small water taxi) for 1 Dirham to cross the creek to the Gold Souk & Spice Souk.

Sights such as the Jumeirah Mosque and adjacent Al Ittihad flag (giant) are approx. 15 min distance by car.

Check the VT pages of members living here in Dubai for more details on these sights.

You've been paying too much Jess, the abra is only 50 fils ;-)

I agree with your choices of apartments, and the places to see. Dubai's history is concentrated around the Creek. There's not a huge amount to see because it was only a small town until very recently, but Dubai Museum, Sheikh Saeed's House, Heritage Village, the restored Shindagah area plus the souks on either side of the Creek are fascinating. Also the local shopping areas that extend back from the souks, around Al Fahidi Street in Bur Dubai and around Naif Road in Deira. And of course, the dhows loading cargo on the Creek, on Deira side, hasn't changed for 100 years.
For shopping you have the local small shops I've mentioned or a variety of spectacular new malls.
As Jess said, check on our Dubai pages where you'll find heaps of ideas and photos.
If you take a Big Bus tour around 'New Dubai' you'll also see many beautiful mosques along Jumeirah Beach Road in particular.

Ah, but I believe they've increased it to 1 Dhs this year... I even recall seeing an article on the subject in the Gulf News.

I was on the abra last week and it was still only 50 fils - they're talking about increasing it but it seems they haven't done it yet. It's been 50 fils since the seventies, so it's about time it went up!
